Can computers ever replace teachers? |
| |
| Do you think in the future computers will completely replace teachers? Even today I think many students learn vast amounts of information from the internet. Many times a teacher can also make a mistake, while a computer never makes a mistake. If a computer does the checking of answer scripts, then the marks given to all the students will also be more scientific and fair. Yes,teachers have that personal touch but what if computers are developed with the artificial intelligence of a patient, caring teacher? So what is your personal opinion? Do you rather think that computers can only replace the 'bad' teachers but never the 'best' teachers? | | | | | |

| | Computers will never replace real human beings as teachers. The computers have no other things to do and say except that which is programmed in it. It doesn't have the qualities of human beings though many have tried to program the computer to be like humans. However, human teachers will always be needed for interaction and manipulation of these computer hardware. I am still hoping to meet a computer teacher who can understand how I feel. | | | | | | |

| | But don't you think that in the future computers will be so advanced that they can do far more than just what is 'programmed' as you say? What if they acquire the artificial intelligence to interact with students? Ofcourse current technology doesn't have this capability, but I'm talking about the future when such things might be very common. | | | |

| | Ya, I liked your last words, that computers can only replace the bad teachers but never be the best teachers. Because after all they are just artificial, they can not be the natural. Let them (scientist) do what ever they can for developing artificial intelligence and whatever, but they can never replace humans with the robots. As far as teachers concern science can not replace, because any computer or machine or robot won't have real affection towards the students, they will do what they are programmed for. Computers can give knowledge, but it is not possible to replace "Best" teachers. | | | | | | |

| | When human populations increase to uncontrollable numbers in the future,do you think it is possible for a teacher to give individual attention to a particular student? Or even show "affection" to All of them? Computers can prove to be most useful for teaching such a large mass of children don't you think? What if technological advancements in the future lead to creating a teaching computer with emotions, feelings, etc? What if we can copy the entire brain of a teacher into a computer's memory(ok,I know I'm going a bit too far,lol ,but you never know what might happen in the future). | | | |

| | Absolutely no..No matter how super computer or robot can not be a human. A life is a life. Each life can not be replaced.Artificial intelligence is set by people. A human teacher teaches you by his soul, not by the settings. | | | | | | |

| | The difference between artificial intelligence and human intelligence or 'life' as you say might not be as much in the future (say 100 years) as it is now. You said a human teacher teaches you by his soul. But practically, from my experience,I can say that many teachers today teach because of money really more than anything else. | | | |

| | Teachers can not only teach you knowledge, but also can make you know how to be a responsible people. While computers can not help you own good manner. To many adult, as their values have already formed, they can get useful information through computers. So the net plays a part as a teacher in some degree. But to many children in the period of forming their values, they may easily be influenced by negative ideas. So I think the teachers still own their values in the modern world. | | | | | | |

| | It is a nice idea, but i don't see it as a possibility. Computers will not be able to take the place of teachers. A computer could never give the support and feedback you can get from a person. We will always need to have teachers. | | | | | | |

| | If computers will have the personal attention toward each student then I might think teachers will slowly and gradually end up teaching in private. Computers as you said will be more specific and there won't be any preferences so I think computer can take over the place if designed to act as the teacher. | | | | | | |

| | No, i don't think they will, because the computers cannot taught the students as the teachers do, we know the computers can only do what we teach them to do.. But as far as a teacher is concerned they are priceless.. | | | | | | |

| | Well, there's a possibility..And I really hope that they replace bad teachers..Most teachers I had are somehow not fair in giving grades; they are bias..Quite subjective..I'd say that the quality of education would greatly improve if the bad teachers are replaced by computers.. The best teachers, I think, couldn't be replaced though..Those teachers will always have a unique trait of himself/herself and/or teaching technique..They would be able to feed informations to the students more effectively than the computers because they could adjust to the adaptations of each different student and they always continue to learn new improved ways of teaching.. | | | | | | |

| | Hi there, nice subject. I don't think computers can replace teachers, because I had lived in an era when teachers really had a strong desire to teach their students and looked at their students as their own sons. Even though computer may outwit the teachers with their accuracy and zero error efficiency, the emotional quotient will still be missing, and the learning will be totally mechanical. I have seen teachers who adjusted their teaching methods according to a student's mentality and inducted new techniques for a slow learner to keep paced with other average students. The computer won't be able to do this. | | | | | | |
