| | Your not a Christian. O well, I'll share some of what I know about your question. The word Christian definitely comes from the name of Jesus Christ or simply Christ the remaining letter which is "ian" is an abbreviation which means "I Am Nothing!". Being a Christian means without Christ I Am nothing. I believe that the founder of Christianity was one of Jesus disciples which is Peter and other followers of Jesus. | | | | | | |

| | Oh sorry I didn't really answer the question. The term Christian came from the followers of Christ. Jesus did not care about names. There is a part in the bible (new testament) where one of his disciples is talking about all the names of different groups that claim to follow him, and they were discussing which group were the real followers, and Jesus told them that the name didn't matter, as long as they were doing what was right. I can't remember the verse for you, but it should be easy to find. | | | |

| | "...The disciples were called Christians first at Antioch." -- Acts 11:26 -- It was during the time when Saul(Paul) and Barnabas were in Antioch, teaching "great numbers of people". They were called "Christians" because they were followers of Jesus Christ and told others about Him. It was the people of Antioch who named them Christians... | | | | | | |

| | That is the exact scripture I was going to quote. This is the first time the word "Christian" is used. I heard that it may have actually been used by the people of Antioch to mock followers of Jesus Christ. Thanks for quoting that Scripture! | | | |

| | The religion of jesus(peace be upon him)was neither 'christianity' nor 'judaism'.He was a jew by race, and was calling his fellow jews back to the authentic religion of Abraham and Moses, but was not preaching what is today called judaism. He never claimed he was preaching 'christianity'in fact the word "christian" appeared for the first time decades after jesus(peace be uon him)had left this world. The bible states: ...And the disciples were called Christians first in antioch(Acts 11:26). As for the word "christ",it is an english derivative from the greek word "kristos" meaning "the anointed one"('Messiah'in the hebrew language)Means Prophet. | | | | | | |

| | Well said. I have one more question, as stated above in antioch they were called Christians. Does this mean they were called Christians because they were followers of Jesus Christ or because they see Jesus Christ in them? | | | |

| | Well your question is very crusial, here is my opinion. The disciples of jesus(peace be upon him) were called as christians is already mentioned in the bible. Now the question is were the called as christians because they see jesus christ in them? well i belive its not mentioned anywhere christians are called christians as they see jesus in them.Logically i can fallow someone but icann't be him. | | | |

| | the term christian was actually a bit of a slur, as others have pointed out the relitivly young church kept talking about a man called jesus and calling him the Messiah (hebrew word), or the Christ (greek word). they talked about Christ so much they were dubbed the christians. odd how names stick. it got recorded in the book of Acts (written by Luke as the second part of his gospel story) and soon people all over the world were claiming to be 'Christians!' This was all long after Jesus has left the earth! short answer, yes and no! | | | | | | |

| | The followers of Christ were first called Christians in Antioch. Christian was a term or name associated to the followers of Christ as a term or abuse, although they gladly accepted it. | | | | | | |

| | The word Christian is biblical... I mean, you can find the word christian in the Bible. In acts 11:19-26, it was the story of apostle paul and barnabas who went to antioch. In verse 26, you will see that in Antioch, the group of believers were called CHRISTIANS. Hope it helps! | | | | | | |
