The word Christian definitely comes from the name of Jesus Christ or simply Christ the remaining letter which is "ian" is an abbreviation which means "I Am Nothing!". Being a Christian means without Christ I Am nothing. I believe that the founder of Christianity was one of Jesus disciples which is Peter and other followers of Jesus.

the term christian was actually a bit of a slur, as others have pointed out the relitivly young church kept talking about a man called jesus and calling him the Messiah (hebrew word), or the Christ (greek word). they talked about Christ so much they were dubbed the christians. odd how names stick. it got recorded in the book of Acts (written by Luke as the second part of his gospel story) and soon people all over the world were claiming to be 'Christians!' This was all long after Jesus has left the earth!
