Getting rid of cheap "booze" in UK, a good or a bad thing?!  

The new coalition Government have said that they are going to stop shops from selling alcohol which they are "not making a profit on", so basically the cheap alcohol which we see in the shops, the £2.50 for 4 cans of lager, which is only low alcohol content but cheap enough for people on low incomes to enjoy a beer without breaking the bank!

I can see where theya re coming from, we have a HUGE binge drinking problem in the UK, with the "chavs" drinking £1 bottles of cider on the street corners causing trouble for people etc. BUT in my opinion stopping cheap alcohol been sold in shops (i.e. the 3 bottles for £10 offers on wine in Asda), will not stop these people, they dont tend to have bills to pay or families to support, and so all of their money can go onto alcohol, whereas people like me and my husband will be forced to stp buying any alcohol!!

We have a moderate income, a house to fund bills to pay and a baby on the way, and we have little left each month to treat ourselves, my husband likes to have a nice cold beer to relax with after a hard week in work (he works 60 hour weeks and works very hard), but is happy for us to buy the cheap beer 4 cheap cans of lager for a couple of pound rather than £5 for a couple of cans, and he makes them last, but without this cheap option, we simply wouldnt buy any alcohol, we wouldnt spend more money on it as its not an essential for us, and so not something we need to fund- and I am guessing there are hundreds thousands even millkions like us out there, who would simply stop buying alcohol!!!

What do you think and why? Is getting rid of cheap alcohol a good thing??
