getting rid of cigarette smell from a closet....  

Get some 'Febreze' if they do it in your country. It 'washes' stuff that can't be washed not an air freshener it makes stuff cleaner. I suggest add some flowers or perfume to the baking soda, that might work better.

I think u should use some sort of insect killers with perfume based so that the smell may be as it is a closet it smells like that .U can try and feel the difference

In the empty closet put a wet towel for 6-8 hours
Then sprinkle with dried mint leaves

yes thats a good idea to put a box of it in there. but also, wash it down with vinegar water,about 3 parts vinegar. i know you are thinking it will smell like vinegar but that wont last for long only a few minutes. but then which is best, vinegar or smoke smell? dont know why so many people are against the vinegar smell and cleaning with it. my grandmother always used it to clean with and her house never stank and never smelled like vinegar over a few minutes after.

Here's an idea.

Take all of your towels and such outta there and put them in one of your dresser drawers. Then.....go smoke your cigarettes in the linen closet.

Problem solved.

The baking soda should help but I would probably use febreeze air freshner. That would do the job faster I think. Cigarette smoke is the worse smell to have to deal with. Good luck in getting rid of it.
