Now I know this is an old book of his but I'm only 22 and I've been reading his stuff for a very long time along with tons of other books so I haven't gotten around to reading EVERYTHING he has written. I recently just finished the last book in the Dark Tower series which took me around 3 years to finish. I used to read like crazy when I was younger but I guess when you have less responsibilities as a child you have more time to read lol.
Anyway, I absolutely loved this story and I was sick this past week and I was able to finish the book in 3-4 days. It reminded me in a way of his book The Long Walk. The basic theme is the same anyway, a main character going against all odds in a horrifyingly barbaric competition to win money for a family who desperately needs it. I love the idea. And I found The Long Walk so intellectually disturbing. He didn't get too much into the world and society surrounding the character in The Long Walk like he did with The Running Man. But both were absolutely great and even though they had a common theme they were completely different stories with their own feel. I find it terrible that it took me so long to get around to reading it. I also finished Graveyard shift (a collection of short stories) and Just After Sunset (a collection of short stories). I liked some of the stories in Just After Sunset, but Graveyard Shift definitely won me over.
