This is the hungriest day of my life....   email this discussion to a friend?

I'm scheduled to have my blood extracted today for my blood sugar test. I'm 7 months pregnant and my OB would want to test if I'm a diabetic. She told me not to eat anything after dinner until the test is over. I have not eaten anything for almost 9 hours now and I still have to wait for 3 more hours for my scheduled laboratory test. It means I can't eat anything for at least 3 more hours.

I just hope it would be over soon because my stomach is grumbling so hard that I think my big intestines are starting to eat my small intestines. If I'll eat something the test might show my sugar is high. It happened to me before during my first pregnancy. I did not follow my OB's instructions. I was so hungry so I ate a piece of bread. The test result showed I'm diabetic. So my OB asked me to repeat the laboratory test but instead of just one time blood extraction they had to extract blood from me three times every after an hour.

I consider that as one of the worst day of my life. Three blood extractions in a day is not something anyone would want to happen to them. That's why I'm making sure that today I will follow what my OB told me and that is not to eat anything until the test is over. I don't want the same thing to happen to me.

How about you, did you ever experienced to be so hungry that you feel like there is World War III happening inside your stomach? Why and happened?

I had to do the 3hr glucose test with my 2nd one. Not only was I hungry but they were having some sort of pot luck for someone who was leaving the clinic so all I could smell was food I was dying! I told the lab tech that it wasn't right for them to have me sit for 3 beautiful hours smelling all that food & not even give me a nibble when I was done w/ my test.. wich I passed BTW.

I hope you bring food with you in your purse or stop somewhere after your test and grab a bite to eat.

Hahahaha! I had the same experience with my first pregnancy. I argued with the Nurse and insisted on taking a small bite of a piece of bread. She told me if I'd want the test to be accurate then I have to follow the instructions. So I was not able to do anything but sulk and wished the test would be over soon.

Good thing my test last week was not as bad as the first one. However, my sugar is still at 7 and the normal is 4 - 6.1 so now I have to do the 4 times blood extraction again next week. I'm dreading for that day to come. Aside from the fact that I'd be starving to death again I also hate it when they have to extract blood from me and to think it's not just once. It's going to be four times. Waaaah!!!

Oh yeah, I had that as well. I had to do fasting for 8 hours. Then when I got to the hospital the test was to extract blood and get urine sample every hour, and they had to do it thrice. The worst part was when they had me drink this sort of orange juice for the second test...and man that juice is kinda like beer...you will really feel dizzy and you feel like vomiting as well. blink

Well, I'd be doing that kind of test next week because the test that I had last week showed my sugar is high. It's at 7. The normal sugar count is 4 - 6.1. I'm dreading for that day to come. I had the same test during my first pregnancy and it was not a good experience. I was really praying so hard last week that my test result would show normal count but it's not. So now I'm preparing for the next test and I'd want to make sure the result would show normal sugar count or else I might need to go under some medication and might be diagnosed with gestational diabetes.
