Can you live without television?  

while i dont watch a ton of tv, there are certain shows that i really like to watch like the antiques roadshow and several shows on the history channel and the decorating channel too so i know i couldnt live without tv!

Actually I live now without television - and i don't need it. I have a laptop, so I can see anything what I want to without advertisements. Here's no delay, no waiting to start a program, I can choose what I want... And if I want to watch a movie or news from my bed I can, or in the kitchen I can, or at the corridor I can... It depends on me :) So I think TV is an old and expired thing. I don't need it.

i can not live without television, not because i watch too much but because i use it to play games. i get the news more on the internet, but the use of tv for me is more on bonding time with my wife. we watch a few cooking shows and some interesting shoes, and it is also a bonding time with me and my son when he watches his favorite shows and i sing with him while he dances. so i guess one of the important appliances at home is the tv set.

Considering the amount of rubbish that is broadcast on tv, satelite and cable nowadays, I could easily live without television. The picture box in the corner is a new concept in home entertainment ie in the last 80 years or so.

People found there own forms of entertainment before telly was invented, and it never did it them any harm. Probably more good actually.

A good book would do for me..

I used to watch television a lot, but now I dont seem to have the same interest in it, there is only one programme that I watch, and others say you could watch these things online... I know that having no television in my house would not bother me at all, it would do me a favour actually as I find it irratating sometimes, and also can be a distraction

I could definitely go without watching TV. I mean, I love to find a good show that keeps me engaged (and I mean scripted shows, not really reality). But there was a period of like 2 or 3 years where I didn't watch much TV at all if any. I'd much rather be either out with friends, gaming, or on the computer and would easily choose those over the television.

It depends on how long I would be living without one. I could definately live without TV for a good month of two, any more than that and Id be too bored out of my mind.

Watching TV is a great way to relax and or fall asleep to, THANK GOD FOR THE HISTORY CHANNEL. It also is a great conversation starter as you just explained.

So yes I could live without TV, but not for more than a few months.

Nice discussion.That's hard for me to imagine.Frankly speaking,there are some channels and programmes which are absolute silly.As for me watching daily news at night is very important. I could give up the TV with not at all a single problem.I am not at all addicted to it.But something must provide me with the news and other daily updates. I think, without the internet I'd be extremely bored at home.

I do. As long as I have my computer beside me i can live even if I don't have a television.
