For a new writer wanting to get published is Ebook the way to go now?

I was thinking with everyone all wanting the Kindle and that having an application for your smartphones and computers now would it be smarter if you were to publish a book to go the Ebook route instead of paperback? There is one place that you can sell them but they just get a little fee for everyone sold (but nothing to set it up) but I think you have to give them rights for 5 years. But with as slow as I have been on editing (because of too many reasons to even try to list) I am thinking that the normal 6 month wait to even get an agent to read it then who knows how long to get it published I may end up dead from old age first. Then again an Ebook can be torrented and shared etc and you not get your money's worth not to mention you would have to get your name out somehow and I some how would not feel like I accomplished it if I didn't have the real book in my hand. But I don't want to be behind in the times.
What do you think? For some one trying to start off with their first book in this day and age of technology would it be best to be ahead of the curve and go for Ebook even though it might bomb since I'm not sure on how agents work with those or if they. Or go the good old fashion route and be stuck X amount of years to paperback book and hope that when you finish it people will actually still want a physical book?
This book has been haunting me and I had enough time to write it and the sequel then my life went to hell and I thought I had it ready just to find out I had to really cut back on pages etc. So I went from thinking done to back to the beginning and like I said it's like everything is going against me time wise in working on it. So if I ever do get it done with the new things I know I need to do such as length I'm afraid Ebooks will be even more popular but not taken seriously if it's a new writer.

I am also a writer, but I have been reviewing ebooks for several years now and I have to say, I do think that is the way to go. When I looked into getting published I found that most print publishers won't accept submissions from unknown authors without an agent. That said, the ebook industry has several epublishers who also issue their stories in print. It's a good way to build a following, and make a name for yourself. Good luck!

the only thing im worried about is people sharing the book with others.. but my book is so big no publisher will touch it so if i want to go regular i have to practically chop it in half.. and yeah if you dont have an agent your just screwed because no one will touch you if you are new
