Cats can eat bones of the small animals they hunt, but chicken bones are dangerous for them, they splinter can can tear their insides.

Cats can eat bones of a mouse or bird but not of a chicken? I didn't know they can splinter and tear the insides of a cat! I always believed and was told these bones don't hurt cats! I was told wrong!

I have always heard that they are dangerous to dogs. I'd imagine they could be dangerous to cats too.

Usually that often cause problems are the bone head of a chicken or fish spines are fairly large compared with the throat hole cat. Cats must try always to be able to remove a foreign object stuck in their throat, but its definitely useless. In this condition the cat would not eat and drink. If undetected or left of course will cause infection.

I knew fish bones were dangerous to cats. Now I know chicken bones are bad for cats! Just the bones not the chicken!

Chicken bones are brittle so they shatter easily. They can even splinter inside the animal's stomach damaging organs. That's why it's not recommended to give them to cats or dogs.

I knew chicken bones were bad for dogs not for cats until now! I didn't realize the bones can shatter and splinter the inside of a cat when eaten! I just learnt something!

hi blue65packer, I knew that chicken bones can be harmful to kitties so if I had a cat I would make sure it wont get any but instead a piece of chicken meat.

It is not recommended to feed any animal a bone of any kind. While chocking may not be an issue, tearing and cutting are always concerns. When bones break, they often have sharp ends that can break off and tear the lining of any number of orgens on its way down. So, if you're unsure about a particular food, or thing don't allow them to have it.

they are not safe for your cats. what i do, i give them bones, even chicken bones that are very big that will surely not fit to their mouth to make sure that they will not swallow them.

raw bones aren't as bad as cooked chicken, but still, not the best for them

myLot reputation of 92/100. blue65packer (6173)   ranked 74 out of 5,817 in cats  2 years ago

I did not know that! I will avoid feeding cats chicken that is on the bone no matter if it is cooked or not! I'll just feed the cats boneless chicken!

I think although choking on a chicken bone is an issue (obviously lol) its the fact that the bone could splinter and puncture your cats stomach or other organs that is the main problem. This wouldnt be very nice for your kitty and could end up costing you lots at the vets which you really dont want!

I have never given my cats bones though I'm sure I have read in various places of people who do give their kittys bones to chew on and have never had any problems. The main reason for chewing on bones is for dental hygenine and if your worried about this at all then make sure your cat is eating a fair amount of crunchy dry food or if your cat prefers wet food try whiskers dentabites, temptations or other crunchy treats which dont cost alot of money.

myLot reputation of 92/100. blue65packer (6173)   ranked 74 out of 5,817 in cats  2 years ago

I don't own a cat. The cats I am talking about are barn cats at the stable were I work at. They are fed dry food every day. On the weekends I give them a small can of wet food on both days. Once in awhile I give them left over food from the kitchen I work at. I only feed them food they like and won't harm them. I always thought chicken bones don't hurt cats. I was wrong and I will never feed chicken, with bones,to cats ever!
