I think most folks will expect me to base my decision on the economy today that is not the case.

I have always owned a home in fact 30 years when I moved into an apartment, may I say that I love the living style that comes with it.

With owning a home you get to use the interest as a write off at tax time, apartment there is no loan so no interest to write off.

You have taxes to pay on the home, the owner of the apartment complex pays them not you. When something breaks such as a stool, garbage disposal stops working and it goes on just pick up the phone and someone else comes and fixes it for you.

You don't have to stop take a look at the issue or issues at hand, make a trip to the hardware store and let's take a look at the time involved on the job at hand. With this said and done you have to hope you have the knowledge to do the repair so if it's not done right you have not only used your time the repair isn't fixed. You can't write off time or unhappy family. You know it always happens when the mother in law comes for a week or a holiday at hand mostly Christmas.

These remarks are true as is the next one, you don't have to listen to other folks living style, some don't walk softly and some have children that are sure they are professional wrestlers.

I can call the management staff and complain they can put a stop to it or remove them that is correct. If you own a home and the teenagers across the street have their music up to loud you can call the police, however this may not resolve as they can't just pack up and move as in an apartment living so you are stuck with your neighbors good or bad.

I love this part no yard work, no cost of feeding the plants, you don't have to set the timer for the yard and plants to get watered. No grass clippings to worry about, when they will pick them up and again what is your time worth?

The owner of the apartment complex is responsible for these jobs at hand, your job is to look every morning while drinking a cup of coffee at how beautiful the grounds are.

Everyone loves their pool this including the neighbors, your family and their friends but no one wants to do the job of keeping the chemicals at the correct level or cleaning it. The cost of chemicals can add up over time and speaking of what is your time worth?

In a apartment complex they take care of the pool and are responsible for keeping it in working order. All of your family and friends can enjoy only it won't be out of your pocket expense and here comes that question again what is your time worth?

Here's another expense for a home, insurance, not only do you have to cover your personal goods there is the structure of the home as well. The insurance for your goods will be no more than a $125 a year unless you have a lot of expensive jewelry which could cost you the same rather you bought or rented a living space. The owner of the apartment complex pays for the insurance on his structure of the building.

This is a plus when any or all of your delivery folks come to the door and you aren't home they don't leave it at your door for someone else to take a look at, in an apartment they take it to the office and they keep it out of anyones hands other than yourself.

Here's the big question or statement coming from everyone, it's just money wasted because you don't own anything. I couldn't agree more with you but take a look at this on all of the subjects I have talked about, there is only one that makes a home owner look better than renters. Ownership, the house will be yours in 30 years and that is correct.

You can't deduct the repairs, the pool upkeep or the insurance rather you own a home or rent. In 30 years the home will like our bodies get tired and will need maintance and this can be costly and demanding of your time.

In an apartment you are paying that money and have no investment to show for it, when you retire you will have a place to live. All of this is correct however if you take the money and put it aside for any and all repairs they maintence folks due on your rented property you are one step ahead of your retirement days.

I think the question I asked many times over is this, what is your time worth and one more I would like to add is this; what matters more to you a place you can call home or time will spent with your family? As anyplace can be home to you and your family if you are willing to make it such. This is my opinion and I respect your opinion as I will continue to live in my place I call home without any worries.

My husband and I have actually been homeowners for the past two years and we are thrilled to death with our decision. Yes, there are a lot of expenses that are involved with being a homeowner that you may not have thought about prior to becoming a home owner, but then again, there are a lot of rewards that I would have never thought about when we became homeowners.

Our insurance is included in our monthly mortgage payment as well as our property taxes so these are expenses that we really don't have to think about. In addition to this, we were lucky enough to buy our house at a price that was far below the market value of it and we are doing improvements on the house such that when we do decide to move we will be making money off of our investment. Plus, it gives us ample space for our family and the children have a place to play.

This is my first posting so thank you for responding. I'm so glad you and your family have a home that you love. I should have gone into more detail perhaps and informed everyone that I'm a much older woman and did have a house when my children were growing up.

Have a safe summer and may God continue to bless you and your family. :)
