The best anecdote over all sorrows...

"Work is the best anecdote for all sorrows, Watson..." - Sherlock Holmes!!! Dear pals, I have read the legendary detective's stories a lot of times and from time time, I remember some of his quote. Yesterday, I was busy for the whole day with my work. I am into Customer Care for a leading Airlines company and hence, my job is to receive calls from all over the world and listen to our customers (passengers) and resolve their queries. I was busy with the calls for the entire day and I guess, I did a lot of work too... I was so immersed in my work and enjoying it that I forgot to eat my dinner. After my shift was over, I came out of the office and waited for my cab. And suddenly, while I was standing in the dark and rainy night, the reality broke upon me. All my problems, obstacles to my happiness, the unwanted people in my life; everything crawled into my mind slowly and caused a huge impact. I was so impressed by the tragic life that I wanted to go back to office and keep working continuously. I even asked my Boss, if I could continue working. He politely declined, which seems very natural now. Right now, I am leaving for my office and am feeling quite good that I am going to be busy and going to forget the 'pain' for some time... Do you agree with me (and Holmes too)? Is 'Work' the best medicine? What has your experience been? Has your work really helped you relax and forget the stress in your life? Am I being a 'Workaholic'? Please share.... Thank you!

Hi there, I cannot linger on any discussion as I am almost out the door to a ball game. I agree tho that work does take your mind off the pressures of the day. HOlmes too LOL Work is a great medicine and just this morning I dug in my flower beds to rid myself of some unpleasantness of a family nature. I love digging in the dirt and while sweating, it seems to take the edge off the problem and this morn was a great day to dig ! I am able now to withstand all that comes my way. I hope all is well with you. I have just been busy with hubby and house chores and a phone call or two that upset me. I am fine tho. Do not worry about me. Ha! There is a song here called "I have the Tiger by the tail " lol, so yes, I have the Tiger here by the tail :) later and God bless, quita

Hi Quita... Great to read from you. The work has really been fantastic lately... :) I am sorry to hear the family issues with you... Hope all is well by now... Diggin is a good job to vent the anger and frustration... :) I used to do it as a kid... These days, I simply exercise to vent out my frustration... I am glad that you are fine.... Do Take care of yourself...

Ah the family issues are a good as they are ever going to get. I have had to concede to the step mom of my son. she has money and rules them with it. The grand kids like her and it's really ok.....I've known her since we were kids but she seems to take pleasure in keeping the grand kids away from me......... I have decided that I can offer my son and grand kids "my ways" and the step mom/grandma can offer them more in the way of money. I can help the youngest , age 7 by teaching about bugs, flowers, going fishing and how to bait a hook the right way and assure him because his hands get dirty that really they do wash and tho , yes they are nasty the are washable too ! My son tells me that all the women in the family are trying to make sissies out of my boys...I have three grandsons and I single handed raised my son and did he remember how many times he and I went fishing and hunting together and played basket ball, etc ?? He just smiled cuz he knew I was teaching the youngest the ways I taught him ! So, because the step mom/grandma seems to get pleasure out of keeping the kids from me , I just smile and go on. I might be pissed but she ain't going to know it ! Still it's a matter of the boys getting the best of three grandmas... and that includes the mom of my daughter in law too.......... Each of us has our own unique ways and "how to dos" that each boy can benefit from.... I will just come home and do my yard work LOL I really get tired with the boys here a lot anyways. A day or two is enough. Step granny has them now for four days and God help her LOL Thanks for caring, quita

Hello friend... it seems as if you were a great Mom and are a perfect grand ma... They should appreciate you... I didn't have such a grandma nor my mom liked the adventures... They were all about being away from troubles... You seem to have raised your son very well... And your grand kids would require such education... Learning with nature is important for emotional health... I hope the kiddies come to you again, soon... They need you... I wish they knew it... 'Money'... Oh... I trust I'll start hating this word... Most of the problems are caused by money only... The step grandma is ruling with money... But would that be for long??? No... The kiddies will soon miss you, trust me... And they will return with new plans for the outings and hunting and fishing... Money is alwys a problem... I am stressed because I don't have enough of it... Trust me my friend, money can't rule forever... There are things that money can't and won't ever buy.... Take care lady... :)

Hi Sarah... I really enjoy my work... Customer Care... Helping people find solutions to their problems (related to air travels)... And then receive a hearty 'Thanks' from them... Wonderful!!! Yesterday, one customer praised me a lot... I felt glad... But reality is not that wonderful.... I'll write to you about it tomorrow... Thanks again!

I have never, ever forgotten to eat. I wish that were my problem. :D As far as work keeping my mind of things, no. For me it's the other way around. If something's bothering me, I have a hard time focusing. What helps me relax and de-stress are things like music, nature, reading, a hot bath, animals, laughter...

You certainly seem to be happy-go-lucky person... Thanks for sharing... Even I hate it when something bothers me and at such times, I can't focus on my work... I am liking this job a lot, so for now, I am focused upon work and slowly I am on the way to become a total workaholic... Have a good day!

hi there. yes, you officially turned to a workaholic. and in this case, it is your defense mechanism to be mobile because you can't bear the pain of thinking. this is good for you, however, you have to sit back and absorb what is happening. i don't mean to tell you that you have to embrace the little sorrows that you have. well, i suppose you have to realize what is happening to you. do not embrace it, just acknowledge the existence of the problems and cause of heartaches. they are, they cannot be changed. but you have a total control on how you deal with those. you can ignore them by repressing the bad feelings or just accept them and work around them. if you repress too much, they wont go away. plus the feelings are not really gonna vanish. they are they, they aren't just being given attention. but an unknown trigger can cause you to feel them much more, on your most vulnerable. i would suggest that you get a hobby instead of putting your time and effort at work. if you are at work and your mind is at work you are missing life's greatest things. i really am sorry if i gave unsolicited advice. it's just that i think you can get something from it. hehe. ;-)

HI Friend... Thanks for the wonderful advice... You have shown so much to think about... I am going to have to sit back and alone and think about it... I am enjoying the work... But for me it has become a habit now. I know I have to face the reality... But being human, my mind tends to get immersed in lighter stress than the higher one... Thank you for bringing me back to reality... :) Have a good Day!

Partly true. I am also a call center agent but the job is so stressful you tend to forget everything else around you and just focus on the call but at the end of the day, I am so worn out. So it was not medicine for me. Laughter is still the best medicine, not work.
