Garden Memories

When I was a child my father had two crops he successfully grew in our garden: Rhubarb and Gooseberries. Every spring we would prance through the rhubarb, picking and eating it as we went. We loved to break off the leaves and wear them as hats. Then we would peel the red from the rhubarb and bite into its juicy goodness. The gooseberries held some flavorful goodness, too. I always liked sour things and still do. Every time I have planted a garden now those are the two things I always want to have. Today my daughter picked her first radish that she had planted and brought me some of the sweetest, juiciest rhubarb I've had since those golden days on my father's homestead. How about you? Are there certain garden foods that just take you back to your childhood? What are they and what memories do they bring back?

my mother always planted tomatoes, and I don't plant anything because going outside isn't high on my list of fun things to do!

LOL!!! I hear you there. My daughter tends my garden for me...otherwise it would all wither away. :)

and I don't have a daughter - or a son for that matter, just a WHOLE lot of cats who don't lift a PAW to help!
