Yes folks, one of the greatest and most popular Jazz legends of all times Louis Armstrong or Sachmo as he was known. It was somewhere in `63 or `64 that he came to my city Bombay,India and performed at the Rang Bhavan, an open air theater. My friend and me bought tickets for his show and attended the evening performance and boy ,did we enjoy it. He played all his popular songs, interacted with the audience, cracked jokes, played the trumpet and entertained everybody singing in his rasping voice. I can`t remember which songs he sang but i remember him singing Hello Dolly, When the Saints go Marching in and Its a wonderful world to name a few. Before him jazz greats like Count Basie and Duke Ellington had played to packed audiences but i had missed their shows because i was schooling. But seeing Sachmo live was an unforgettable experience which i will treasure all my life. Have any of the oldies amongst mylotters seen Sachmo or any other Jazz great live? Please share it with us. Thanks.

....Hi there vj, That must have been the thrill of a lifetime for you. I have attended concerts but not to see any of the jazz greats. Mr. Armstrong had a one of a kind voice, so very talented he was. I went to see Elton John once in Philadelphia, he was not feeling well at the time but he sang anyway. It was a good show. I also saw Al Pacino in a live theater production of Richard the Liohearted I think. My other brush with fame was meeting Richard Harris the star of Camelot on an elevator and not recognizing him. It was in Texas, and I bruised his ego so much so, that he started to sing "the hills are alive" from the show. I was shocked, went into silly adulation, got his authograph and told everybody how Richard Harris had serenaded me on an elevator because I didn't know who he was and he had to be admired or else. "o) It was funny. Take it easy, hope you are
well. It has been in the hundreds here this week, steaming hot.

hello queen of my heart, yes it was a great experience to see and hear Sachmo live. I haven`t seen any other figures since during my childhood hardly anyone visited the country. We are in the rainy season now and its pretty cool by our standards. The sky is overcast and it rains in sporadic spells. Our summer is over which was a big relief as it was blazing hot.Have a nice day, darling.
