I can't believe all the trouble I'm having trying to get my shih tzu to Puerto Rico from New Mexico. Due to the temperatures there will be no flights from here to PR till after September 15th. Now I have to drive to Florida with him in the car to get him on a flight from Florida to Puerto Rico. This is a nightmare. Its 2010 there has to be a way to get him there without so much red tape and not so expensive. Jet-A-Pet wanted to charge me $685.00 for one way. That is an outrage.

Wow! I only wish I could be born as your dog! Jus kidding. I'd love to see New Mexico, Puerto Rico, Florida and all. And $685.00 for one way. is not an outrage, it's more like mass murder! We have services like jet-a-pet in India, but the charges are not that high- maybe because they do not give princlely treatment to dogs. One of my neighbours did this. She said it was just a nominal fee. Not huge. Anyway, good luck. And I agree with you about: 'Its 2010 there has to be a way to get him there without so much red tape and not so expensive'. For some reason, world revolves slow... Regards, Ajith.

Thank you, I wish it was a nominal fee I would be willing to have it all done for $200.00 but $685.00 is crazy. I hope I can get him on a flight from Florida to PR with no problems. I got him from New York to New Mexico without problems 3 years ago.

That's crazy expensive! I can't believe it's that expensive! That's almost as much as a person's ticket. Hope you find a reasonable and safe way to get your little dog home. Take care.

Are you flying to Puerto Rico also. Sometimes you can fly your pet as your carryon piece of luggage. The problem with flying a dog right now is that when they are place in the cargo hold the temperatures can not be in excess of 85 at the departure station or exceed 85 at the destination location during any point of the flight. It places too much risk on the airlines that your dog may become ill from the heat. I know when I purchased my puppy in August, 2 years ago, it took 4 attempts to get her to me because it was too hot at the location she was coming from. They ended up having to put her on a flight at 6 pm and she arrive to me at midnight. It was the only time the airline would allow her to be flown.

I'm flying to Puerto Rico but at a different time then my dog. In Florida where my parents live animals are not allowed. So the plan is to get a flight out the same day I arrive in Florida by car. I'm planning to visit my parents for two weeks since I haven't seen them in two years. I will also try to get a later flight where the temperature is not so hot for my dog. Thanks for the info.
