My cat is SERIOUSLY allergic to fleas and this summer has been a really bad one at our house for fleas. We tried the flea collars, flea powder and even the dip. (we dipped her every week for a month) now for the past month or so she has been hiding in the basement. I knew she was down there but couldn't get her to come out of hiding. So finally she came out of hiding and she is loosing her hair (from the middle of her back to almost the tip of her tail) and she has scratched herself raw and has so many scabs on her it is really sad. Now if any of you have read my other post about being out of work, you know that I don't have any extra money to take her to a vet. She is acting normally (except for the constant scratching, the scabs and lack of hair)... Does anyone know what I can do to help her. I feel so bad and I don't want to get rid of her but I feel so bad for her....HELP!!!!

well here is the poor mans response ;), you can go to lowes or any feed store and ask for somithing called dinatomatious earth its a fine powder that fleas or anyother insect will die if they inhale it , its like glass to the bugs lungs or some crap , to can put a small amount like 1 teaspoon in the ca dry food and somhow dont ask me why but the fleas will stay off it you can also use this like flea powder , also fleas only live for 3 days so if you have them in your house you can sprinkle salt or even that baking soda stuff on the carpet and furniture and leave it for 3 days then repeat after a day so you get the other eggs the salt will dry up the existing eggs and the 2nd round will get the eggs that were laid by the fleas that didnt die , but i also pray for fleas while i salt my house ;) hope this helps ! melissa

You will have to come up with the money to take her to the vet. It is like a child. If you child needs medical attention, you don't think about the money, you just take them. It is acutally considered cruelty to animals if you do not seek the care for your cat that it needs. As far as flea prevention, the only thing that works well for us is Frontline. I think it's about $20 a month. You can get it from your vet.
