Recently, my husband and I plan to build a new house and we chose a construction company to build the house for us. But in their contrat, we find out there are a lot of clauses that just protect the constructor, but not us. We ask the constructor to modify the constract, otherwise we won't accept the projet. The constractor try to say all the clients sign the same contract without any complaint or comment. Do you believe that ? Do you sign a big contract without reading it carefully ?

Everybody should read the contract before signing it. The fact that your signature appears in it gives a presumption that you read the contents, understood them and agree to them. It would take a really good lawyer to prove that you had no idea what you were signing into. It is true that a lot of people do not read the contracts before signing, or that they have read them, but have not understood them well, which causes a lot of problems later on. It's important to read thoroughly, especially when the contract involves something big like a house. If you're unsure, try asking the help of your lawyer before signing anything because sometimes these contracts are tricky especially if prepared by lawyers with all their gobbledygook language.

Hi, I do agree some people don't bother to read those thick contract and they just put their signature there and that is. My husband also bought a house and he did go through the contract before he signed. He brought the contract back home to read carefully. It is best to have a proper reading on any document before putting your signature,or else, you may regret in future.
