My kitten likes to roll in the litter box!

Any advice here would be welcome. I have had cats my whole life (we currently have four) and I have never seen this before. My crazy Tuxedo kitten Muffin has taken to rolling over and over in each of the litter boxes--even when they are dirty! We try to clean them twice a day (we have 4 boxes), so I don't think it's a message telling us to clean them more. But how do I get him to stop without discouraging him (or the other cats) from using the boxes? And any idea WHY he is doing this? If I don't get him to stop soon, I am going to have to start bathing him--and we all know how much cats love being bathed!

some cats like to roll in dirt and if they can't get to the dirt, they roll in the next best thing... Booboo escapes and goes out and rolls in the dirt, so maybe if you could do supervised visits outside with Muffin he might quit rolling in the boxes

He hasn't been outside since he was 1 week old--how would he learn about dirt? I would let him do that anyway, but we live in heavy deer/Lyme disease territory, and since I have 3 other cats and two kids, it's not worth the risk (especially since he's mostly black). All my cats stay inside because of this. Can't keep the kids inside, but we do daily tick checks on them! But it was a good suggestion, and I welcome any others you might have!

they don't learn about dirt, its an instinct to help cover their smell, and to a certain part, leave their scent as a marker, basically saying "this is mine" all I can suggest is keeping the litter box extra clean

I don't know why he is doing it, but there is a danger. While he is rolling, he is kicking up dust which could land in his eye. One of my cats had such a severe eye infection she lost sight in the eye. It would have been permanent if I had not rushed her to the vet. For the longest time, nobody could figure out what happened. Then one day, I was watching her play outside. She was rolling in the dirt. Suddenly I knew what happened. My driveway was unpaved at the time. The dirt was flying. Some of it must have gotten in her eye.

We had a cat that done that, so as soon as i knew that the cat was ready to poo out side i was soo pleased.Thankfully when it did start to poo out side it never rolled in poo any more, lol.I did have to bath the poor thing twice and it hated every time i had to bath it,but the smell was soo bad i had no choice.
