Horse on Glucosamine  |

|  One month ago I put my twenty year old horse on glucosamine. In the past she was foundered and had developed arthritis. Since I take glucosamine myself and it saves me from cortisone injection, I decided to try it. Horse arthritis are very expensive so I called the vet and asked. She said I could but it probably wouldn't do her any good. Said I could try eight a day. So, she is up to 7 1500mg a day and is getting built up to eight. Just this week I have noticed a huge difference. It made me cry to see such an improvement. Does anyone else do this for their horses with arthritis?

| |  Glucosamine can and does help. Another product you could try for her is MSM. Excellent for horses (and people too). It keeps fluid out of the joints and helps rebuild the cartlidge too. It also keep inflammation down and improves cirulation. I pay about $6 a pound for it and you only give about a tablespoon or so a day. 1 lb lasts about 45 days I think? MSM isn't just for old and foundered horses, it's also excellent for young horses that are growing and actively competing horses. Glucosamine is good for competing horses too. It's good of you to look out for your old mare, I'm sure she really appreciates it too.
