ok, so i've never reported anyone on mylot throughout my entire mylotting experience. why? unless something personally affects me, i don't see the reason to. i know people report bad behavior. i try to ignore it when its directed towards me. (i'll normally give them a (negative (-)) and keep it moving. i know people report repeat questions. i don't really care to do so. i also know reporting people makes mylot better (so they say hmmm) anyway as an example, i found a repeat discussion today. of my exact discussion i posted yesterday about uninstalling cash gopher. but i didnt report it. why? i'm just not that kind of person to take the time to do that. i'm not out to ruin other mylotters experience. but what's you deal? can you relate?

Over the years since I joined myLot it has become extremely obvious that whether a user reports or not depends a lot on their culture. Many seem to think that reporting is a negative thing and is to be considered as "grassing" and they are entitled to that opinion of course. Then there are others that are aware that if a user is violating the Guidelines here they could well be doing it just because they are oblivious to the fact that there are Guidelines because they just started posting without taking a look round. At some point they are going to lose their discussions (for example jokes, recipes, plagiarised posts) regardless of whether they are reported or not. However if a user sees these posts and realises that they will be removed AND that the Lotter who started the topic and those who responded will eventually lose any earnings for their efforts, and decides to warn, advise and guide them telling them that they are making a mistake, then surely that is positive? All earnings for deleted posts are divided among active users therefore everyone benfits if these posts are reported. The content on myLot remains within the Guidelines. Cheaters and plagiarists do not reach payout and newer users, if they wish to understand how things work here, will learn and start earning more sooner. Whether we report or not and why we report or not is, just like everything else here, a question of choice and each one of us has their own reasons for deciding to do, or not to do, whatever they decide to do.

It is in the FAQs too "From time to time it is necessary for myLot to recalculate earnings for the month to curb users trying to game the system. Our proprietary earnings algorithm periodically recalculates all estimated daily earnings for the previous month to take into account posts that have been deleted in the abuse and moderation processes. During the recalculation of earnings some users with lower-quality contributions will see a decrease. Any money deducted from users due to our abuse and moderation processes is then reallocated to myLot users based on certain qualitative factors. Due to this, earnings will fluctuate" http://www.mylot.com/o/faq/faq6.aspx#17

Hello Mysd, I didn't know that the earnings from the deleted discussions are redistributed among other active users, and about the fluctuations, of one or two cents that i frequently get out of it. That sounds cool. You guys do a good job, taking your time to report them. I appreciate it. See you mysd! :)

I don't report people either. I don't see the point.. Well to help mylot yada yada.. But it doesn't benefit me in anyway and wastes precious time. If it's not going to help me in anyway, why bother? Even if someones being rude to me I probably wouldn't report them. I wouldn't get any satisfaction out of them getting their post deleted. And who knows if they even read their emails to find out if their post is deleted. I don't read my mylot emails, I'm sure I'm not the only one.

You both seem to be unaware of something that is stated in the FAQs. the earnings from deleted discussions do not go back to mylot. They are divided up and distributed among active users during the month. In fact you will see your earnings fluctuate and that is the reason when they increase. Would you rather that plagiarists and spammers reached payout with that cash?

Hmm I didn't know that.. I haven't seen my earnings change that much though. They went down a couple times but that's it.

I have reported people and once I was preported. I will report people if I see a discussion that I know breaks Mylot guidelines. I have reported one person who was constantly critizing me on everything! Far as I know nothing was done about it because that person is still around but has left me alone! I got reported once on a discussion I should of never started! I didn't know what I was talking about and got pissed off when I wasn't getting any help on my question! So I called someone a nasty name and that is why I was reported! Since then I don't start a discussion I don't know what I am talking about! I learned my lesson!

I don't know how reporting people is ruining mylot. Maybe we should reverse engineer it. If people wouldn't violate the guidelines there wouldn't be any ruining, neither from reporting as you state or from guideline violations messing up mylot.

I did mention that reporting people on mylot does make it a better mylot...right? Yep, I just KNOW when people report me its sometime out of spite. for example, i remember seeing one of my discussions tagged under "repeat question" but it clearly was not! I've made sure of it. so that mylotter was out to RUIN my discussion. get it? thanks!!

Just because a discussion has a tag saying "repeat question" does not mean that a) it has been reported or b) that it will be deleted.

You know, I have always thought about this. I never really saw anything that would inspire me to report what another person is doing on here. Then again, I really tend to just worry about what I am doing on here. I'm sure in many cases, those who are being reported are extremely justified in doing so. I mean, there could be some severe breaches of guidelines here. However, if those people want to report people, fine, most of the time, there is an extremely good reason for this to say the least. So, yeah, if you want to report it, go and do what you feel is right. However, I'm going to give that huge responsibility to another person. That way they would feel much more at ease with doing something like that then I would. Still its a dirty job, someone's got to do it but its not going to be me.

I reported one person (ages ago) for starting a discussion that was almost identical to mine but after that I got thinking...even if one searches to make sure a subject you are about to discuss hasn't been done before, it can be very difficult. The words may be slightly different, as an example. So, I reckon there are loads of duplicate discussions without us realising it, and it's perfectly innocent behaviour on our part. Do you know what I'm getting at? No-one is guilty and no-one is innocent. There's also the language barrier which is a big problem to some but not others, depending on their level of English Language skills. I tell you this though, if I was from India, the Philippines, or wherever, I'd hate to trawl through the guidelines..it's bad enough when I can understand it all!

I understand. but this person who copied my exact discussion knew I started it first because he/she post a comment on it. when i when to his discussion to say "i posted this discsussion yesterday" she/he comment back saying "i know" i still didn't report it. i was kind of annoyed though. but i'm over it thanks for sharing!!

I would never report someone either. I don't see how it would benefit me in any way. The only reason I would probably report them is if they said something so absurd and rude against me. I have also never given a person a (-) because I just don't want to deal with people like that. I feel as though people who are very rude deserve to just be ignored. I have accidently posted a question that was similar to another but just worded differently. So what if that person that started a discussion about cash gopher didn't know that you had started one like it. I mean Cash gopher has came out recently and people are probably talking about it a lot. Was the discussion exactly the same as yours? In that case I would understand. Anyways I really am not the kind of person who would go about reporting people.

Well it's good to hear that your over it. It's best just to forget everything because if you keep thinking about it and it irritates you...well the other person will pretty much be getting the benefit.

I reported someone once about 5 years ago. This person had copied and pasted a very long response to every discussion he/she could find. I saw the exact same response on at least 5 discussions of my and my friends discussions. It was a clear attempt to scam the system. Cheaters take pennies out of everyone's pockets. Anyway, other than that, a blatantly argumentative or mean response gets a negative vote from me. Otherwise, positive or no vote.

ok, i can see why you reported that person. he or she did deserve that one. thanks for sharing!!

I think with the repeat discussions the person didnt know that the topic had already been entered, they didnt take the time to check. Some people who are new to mylot might not know how to do this and just enter what they want to talk about not relising that someone else had already done so.

Keshia- I've not had any of my personal threads deleted since coming to mylot. I took the time to read through the FAQ's and try very hard to follow those rules so as to not cause issues to my own earnings or that of my friends on here. However, I have in the past reported those violations just as Diana has already mentioned. Most of us will notify our friends if something is completely out of line so that administration can be made aware that something needs to be looked at. Most of the time though it takes only one report and administration will deal with it appropriately. As far as negative ranking others, as mentioned it FAQ's it serves the person nothing to just be mean and flag threads or mark threads as negative. That will only have a serious impact on the one doing it. So there are failsafes in place, though at times I can understand it may not feel like that. The best thing you can do is continue to post, be active, and make full responses. Take note of what those who have been mylot for years are doing and emulate them. If you are ever nervous about starting a thread simply do a search to see if something like that topic has already been written about. If it has, jump in the conversation and if not simply start your own thread. Namaste-Anora

Hi Keshia, I don't do the things you mentioned, though I know myLot appreciates the fact that some people do this for the betterment of the site. Not that I don't care, but I resolved to mind my own activities here than watch others. Besides, I'm still learning the ropes here, so that doesn't put me in the right position to somehow "judge" others.

Hello keshia, I am lazy on reporting too. In fact i am lazy enough to rate a - to someone either, i just like to give + or nothing at all. I believe there is no discussion that i have answered and not given a + to. I like to rate positive and positive only, I don't think i am lending a hand on making this place any cleaner. We have enough people here, who would do the same.

Well I have never reported anyone on mylot because I don't think that I could bing myself to do something like that. I am a nice person and I do not like to make people upset with me so I just don't do it, my heart is not up to it. he time that I have been on mylot so far has been a great experience because a lot of mylot members are friendly and always answer my questions when I need to get them answered. I feel like mylot is helping me understand everybody and helping me towards becoming a more social person. I hope to complete that one day.

....i agree with you...mylot for me is a way to communicate with others freely, yes there are rules to follow and i understand how others would feel if there are other people who don't follow rules, but personally, i don't mind those things...just like what you said, so long as it does not affect me personally then i don't mind..after all what is important is not that one but their thoughts and opinions on a certain topic...the content of their post..
