Britain beats France in the sparkling wine game!!

News came in this week that in an international competition to find the best sparkling wine over 310 , Britain were the surprisinf winnera with a wine from South East England winning th top international trophy - beating Champagne from France. For so long now British wine has been ridiculed but there do seem to be some really good ones coming on the market now. I tried some excellent wine at a little vineyard in Cornwall the other year - just as good as any of the imported wines we get. The winning wine in this competition was a £22 2006 Grosvenor Blanc de Blancs from Ridgeview and the judges described it as "Lemony, fresh flower nose which is elegant, discreet, biscuity and youthful. "Very refined and refreshing palate... vivacious acidity, minerality, precision of flavour. Stunning." That sounds VERY good, but at £22 a bit out of my league for slugging while watching the X FActor!! Ridgeview's winery is in the Sussex Downs and was started in 1995 and is a family run business. Have you tried any British wine and if so what was your opinion?
