If you are at a job where you deal with people...

This sounds incredible, but I have gotten one of my principle rules in dealing with people from the Bon Jovi song, "Have A Nice Day". Part of the lyrics are: "When the world gets in my face, I say have a nice day." I work with the public and sometimes we get the worst from people because of the day they are having. Since we can't (by company rules and rules of good conduct) say what we are thinking (^%&:.*%$@&~)! LOL I find that the thought from this song does nicely. It helps you from getting into trouble yet still let's you vent a little. Hopefully, it will also lighten the troubled persons mood a little, too.

I think most jobs deal with people. I work in an organization which has something to do with people's lives. That is helping them sort of help themselves being self-reliant, doing good for their families and communities and etc. Now, these people have different problems and different attitudes that dealing with them is sometimes frustrating but you have to do your work. But sometimes the frustration comes from the people you are working with in your company or office and dealing with these co-workers is worst than dealing with the other people from the outside. Hmmmm...

frustrated store clerk - cartoon man behind a cash register with the thought about pulling his hair out
Co-workers more frustrating than the customers? I guess I am lucky, because I have never experienced that. That sounds like it would be really hard. I don't envy you. I guess somehow rising above all of the crap from other employees would make one a better person. I've had to deal with some office politics, but fortunately, it was only one or two individuals that the rest of us would stay away from. If you can manage to deal with constant crap from fellow employees and from annoying and angry customers and still manage to keep a good outlook on life, you are a rare person, indeed. You should find a formula for how you achieve this and bottle it. You'll make a fortune! There's a person at my job who is always consistantly cheerful at the end of the day and I wonder what her secret.

laughing - a purple face laughing
I wish I could do that all of the time, like you manage to do. The problem that I have is that I have always "worn my heart on my sleeve" (feelings are easily hurt). That can make it difficult to manage the frustration. Thank God, I am able to keep a fresh perspective on life most of the time. Thankfully, there are alot of good sitcom's on TV that I enjoy. It has been said that laughter is the best medicine, I agree completely.

I also work in a customer related company. I always treat people nicely even if they are being rude. I just assure them that I will be able to help them and I can do it really quick. I am a very polite person so everytime I encounter rude people, they are the ones changing their approach to me and they seem to be sorry how they behaved. I just tell them that I will also feel really upset if I am going to experience the same thing like theirs. It is a matter of empathizing with them so that I am being able to calm them down and get on with the problem they are having and fixing it really quick. That is how I deal with people.

This is true and a good approach, but what do you secretly think to yourself once they have left?
