So tonight I had my christmas celebration with 2 of the boys I work for who are on the autism spectrum. Last year we worked very hard with the 4 year old (who is now 5) and practiced opening presents every day. Finally when it came time for Chrismtas and for the first time ever he actually opened and showed interest in the presents he was given. It brought nearly everyone in teh room to tears.
This year, we did not work on him and instead started to focus on his 2 year old brother and we wrapped a bunch of 'practice' presents for him. He showed NO interest, to the point where we stopped practicing and just said 'if he doenst open presents this year that's ok, he's only 2.'
Well we just had our celebration and he opened EVERY SINGLE PRESENT. HE was excited to open them he ripped the paper and smiled at what he found inside. Needless to say we were SO shocked and SO SO EXCITED. It truly felt like a Christmas miracle to us.
I could not have asked for a better Christmas present. I have so many hopes and dreams for him every day that this gave us a glimpse of what he could become. Is there anything special that you are hoping for this holiday season? OR have you ever had a 'christmas miracle' of your own?

That's cool. Now my son has never had a problem with being interested in his presents. If anything, it's a struggle to get him to slow down! No Christmas miracles here that I can think of.

hi makingcents,
Congratulations for a wonderful accomplishment. You are very patient with that.I know that this event really made a great impact on your life. It seems you are working so hard with those boys on the autism spectrum. Accomplishing something is like you reached the top of the mountain. I can say that you are a very generous person and those boys are really blessed to have someone like you.
If there is anything special I hope for this holiday season is that I hope that our family stays stronger and happy all throughout this journey in our life. For my parents, I hope that God gives them longer life so we can give back to them our gratitude. We spent a poor life when we were young and our parents really struggle hard for us to complete our education. Now, I am working and I am happy that I am able to help my family. My younger sister will soon finishes her studies and I hope that she can also pass the licensure examination for teachers. Thanks for starting a wonderful post.

Hoping for health for your family is a great wish. It is so nice that you want to give back to your parents. That to me shows that they raised you right and you are now showing your gratitude for that. And good luck toyour sister as well!

Your field of work is one of the most amazing and rewarding fields to be involved with and you get to see miracles on a daily occurrence. I"m happy that the kids and the party went really well. I hope every year from here on it gets better and the miracles become more revealed.
Well being Jewish we hit up our festivals already but have hopes for a bright 2011 ahead and one filled with health and happiness for everyone.
