Could hair mousse be drying out my hair?

My whole life I had never used any products on my hair besides shampoo and conditioner. My hair was always so silky and smooth while being curly. I began using hair mousse on my hair and now my hair is so frizzy and dry looking without the mousse so I have to use the mousse every day or my hair looks horrible. It could be that my hair is damaged from the times that I have straightened it but it doesnt really make sense because my hair has grow a few inches since then and the new hair is all frizzy to which to me makes me thinks maybe its from using the mousse.
