My daughter got her a new purse, and went to throw this one out, of course I stopped her. Being the crafty person I am, I thought I could do something to do it give it a new life. However, I have sat here at starred at and just do not know what it is exactly I can do. I am hoping someone can give me some ideas. I love the shape and the design on the purse so I would really like to keep it for myself. As you can see the leather pieces has wore down and fixing to break, and the design has wore off. I attempted to take a paint pen to the design ( just not sure if that will work ) . I sew very little for the record. So if any of you has a easy fix for the leather straps and designs I would love to hear from you . Oh yeah you can view more pictures of the purse in my photos.

From the photo..it looks like metal loops hold the strap to the purse? Is that where they are breaking from? My thought is if the strap is breaking, you could tie a colorful scarf or fabric to the metal loop that is on the purse "side". Then wrap the fabric/scarf around the actual handle and tie to the metal loop on the other side. The handle in the middle will give it strength and the fabric will hide the ugly strap and give it strength so it doesn't break. But if the strap is broken and the loops are still fine...do the same thing only take three strips of fabric and tie the ends of all to one loop, braid the three and tie them to the other loop. To cover the black leather parts that are fading...glue rhinestones or jewels or large brooche style pins to the larger parts of leather and use smaller rhinestones or jewels and glue them to the thinner areas of leather. As far as the fabric that is "fading".. maybe a black fabric marker would work, but if not...get some fabric glue and some black glitter. Where it is black...brush glue all over it and then pour on black glitter. When dry, shake off the excess glitter and see what you got! When completely dry (like next day) take some white glue, and brush/paint a very thin layer of the glue over the top of the glitter and that will hold it all in place. You could do the same with the white strips, or leave them as is. Good luck and let us know and see what you do!

Yes the metal loops do hold the straps, and that is where it is starting to break at. I love the idea for the straps, it would add extra pizazz to it. I would have never in a million years thought about doing something like that. I have a bunch of vintage jewelry pieces from selling vintage jewelry on ebay so this would be just a wonderful idea for these pieces, and I would adore the purse even more ! Thanks for such a detailed reply. I can't wait to get started ( just have to find the time ), and I will be sure to post pictures.

I agree with the strap ideas and for the fading of the black, you could use the markers or the fabric paint they have.I bet the black glitter idea would be neat. The bag looks like it still has a lot of life in it.I'm like you I would be trying to fix it also.Looks like lots of room in it.

bretay, it is very roomy in there. My daughter carried books in it along with every other purse item lol. I am sure that is why the straps took a brutal beating. I like the idea of the fabric markers, but my hands tend to shake and I would be so scared I would mess it up. I am wanting to get started this project, but time has not allowed me to do so, as of yet. Life tends to get in the way of my craft projects lol
