how do i manage my profile in oDesk to get more writing job opportunities?

Hi. I just signed up at oDesk as I currently am seeking for a writing job to get extra earnings. Could someone help me out on how to manage my profile so that i could have myself an increased probability of getting hired by the employers? and if you could describe to me in detail how to increase the amount i could require employers to pay me every hour? i know it's very little for a newbie, but i want to understand clearly what i could get from being active in oDesk.
