"We are calling today about your computer, it has downloaded a file."

Every couple of days, we have been receiving hone calls from India saying that my computer has downloaded something it shouldn't have and that they are calling to fix the problem. We know it is from India because there is a MASSIVE delay from the satellite connection. Also, they don't understand basic Australian slang and seemed to get a little bit lost when prompted for more information - where in the world are you located, then mate? When did my computer download this file, 'ey?
What is worse, though, is that they are calling up on my home phone. No time EVER has my home phone number been linked to my computer, it's ALWAYS my mobile because I am the one who deals with, what my hubby calls, "that crazy effing computer!" (It runs Windows 7, he is used to XP).
I have contacted my ISP and they have said that nothing untoward has been detected through the servers. Apparently there are a large number of Aussies that are getting these nuisance calls.
Just wondering, has anyone else received calls like this?

Oh really?I've never ever received any call from anyone saying I've downloaded something that shouldn't have and not even heard that ISP make a call like this to their customers(not at least in my country,in India).I think that might be someone who has a lot of time on his tiny hands to make calls.

Thanks for your response =)
That's what I think too, that there are people out there who need to get a life. Since hanging up on them the other day, though, I haven't had another call . . . yet ;-)

Oh gosh no I have never received a call like this but does not surprise me one bit. Some people either have way too much time on their hands and or this more then likely is to draw the receiver into releasing personal information in order to fraud them somehow.
I am glad you thought about how odd this was and did not further entertain. I am also glad that you posted this because it seems that each day more and more fraud is growing so it can serve as a warning.

It's terrible how much fraud has grown these days, isn't it? I've always been suspicious of these types of things but I know of a lot of people who aren't. I spoke to my ISP afterwards and they have advised me to record the time and date of the calls. Once they have called three times, I'm to contact my ISP with the details so that an investigation can begin ;-)
