were you affected by the online poker ban?

My friend plays online poker on pokerstars, and now he can't play because the fbi tracked them down and shut down the system because they had a way of running without paying taxes, and the us government did not like that. I feel really bad for my friend and for everyone who was playing online poker. Did you play poker online? If not, what do you think of the ban?

I play on some of the sites but not for real money. I always just play for the play chips. Me and my b/f have talked about putting a little money on just to see, but we never have. I do have a friend that played with real money all the time. I wonder what happens to their money of they have some in an account? hmmmm...anyway..I tried to play last night and it wouldn't let me download the new software..it all might be frozen right now..I don't know.

yeah, it's gone. I heard there are other sites that do it the legal way, but the most famous ones are gone.

I got on Fulltilt and played today. They are still doing play chip games, but they are alerting on sign in that Americans can not play for money anymore.

The money is not gone, at least not in Poker Stars. PS already paid all their debts with the US customers. Full Tilt still didn't paid, but I believe that they are going to pay. Now, AP and UB totally never going to pay the US players.

I've never played online poker. My husband was always telling I should because I'm good at playing poker. I'm guessing this ban just took place. I think the poker ban is ridiculous. But it doen't surprise me at all the government shut it down. Leave it to them to ruin some honest fun because of taxes or anything for that matter. I will say it took the FBI a long time to figure it out. I hope the poker community can figure something else out. Is this really true? Best Wishes!

There was already a ban for some sites, but Pokerstars and Full Tilt were still running because the FBI couldn't track them down- they were operating outside of the US so it took them a while. My friend told me that there was one guy who finally ratted them out because he was bribed. Now I see that you can still play anywhere else in the world, so the sites aren't shut down, they're just now accessible from the US.

I think that this has been resolved. I do play on that site and some of my friends too.
