Artificial Insemination... A sin?

My dad seems to think so. I told my Mom that my 29 yr old, single friend is thinking of having a baby through artificial insemination. I was surprised when she told me that my dad just spoke about how getting a procedure like that is unnatural therefore it is a sin.
Someone interrupted us and we were not able to continue with that conversation. I didnt get to ask my dad how he came up with such a conclusion. Does anybody here have the same views as him? I really don't understand because I see nothing wrong with this.

Some people have conservative views on just about anything. Maybe your father feels that giving birth should be done through natural means because that's the "right way" to do it. Maybe someone should talk some sense into him about how the technology is evolving now and people are inventing new ways to do stuff and that includes conceiving a baby.

Hi ddaguno
Well, Artificial Insemination is no sin - if we think about the so many couples and people who cannot get a child due to medical issues.
Perceptions, traditional values and also the laws makes it look like a sin to some. In this particular case you mention, see, our parents are older and so have some traditional values - and they consider the Single Friend expecting to have the baby as a sin - not the Artificial Insemination.
I have no issues with this as long as the mom or the parent to be are in a position tobear and bring up the child. If not, not even married people should have a baby - there are many orphans around, and you can always have one adopted for you (again subject to laws, beliefs, and customs - we cannot run away from them for harmony)

"It's a sin" is the perfect excuse for many people to butt in when the topic has no relation to them. Ignorant sayings, like calling something a sin are an easy ignorant excuse, but without a good reason to reject that, I can't understand either what is he exactly thinking.
I think that friend should go for the baby if she wishes to get pregnant, as that's what the technology is for

It might be unnatural sweetie, but i honestly don't think it's a sin.
No matter how you get pregnant, it's the result that's important.
Or your dad just don't like the idea.
Parents tend to have such opinions and we have to respect that even if we don't understand why.

i dont see anything wrong. i think that if she really wants to have a baby why not?^^ i agree if she is ready to be a mum and dont love anybody. is not a sin to do that. i wish that she can do what makes her happy and im sorry that your dad thinks that way. the truth is that a lot of people cant accept modern things. like gay marriage for example. a lot of people is against it what for me also doesnt make sense. we live to be happy so we should do what makes us happy^^

Artificial Insemination is not a sin and it is a legal process now in most of the countries, if not all.

It is really a difficult question to answer.People like your dad who are brought up in the traditinal and conservative way stick to old age theories and it is very difficult for them to come to terms with what is happening in the modern era.I personally believe that whatever happens, happens for the best and if artificial insemination can help an unwed mother to beget a child there is nothing better than that.Every woman, married or not has a secret desire to have a child one day or the other. After all you are bringing a new life into existence and if that is Gods plan then why not.I do not find anything sinful in it as giving birth is not a sin. The only danger is that you do not know who the person is who is donating his sperm. For eg, if he has some genetic disease or if he is the carrier then it can be passed on to the new born child, or if the donor has some psychological problems which can assume dangerous proportions then later on in life the child could show abnormal behaviour. If possible it would be better if your friend could know who the donor is and his antecedents just to be on the safer side.
