With the passing of three local soldiers recently, one of whom was brother, Memorial Day takes on greater significance this year in our community. It is so sad that these soldiers died at such a young age. All were under thirty. I miss my brother so much and I am thinking of him today and every day.

I am sorry for your loss. I was about to ask on myLot why Americans have a Memorial Day holiday as we do not have similar holiday in our country. Soldiers dying such a young age is terribly sad. Is drafting to military service compulsory?

Military service is not compulsory now but it has been in the past. Memorial Day is our way of honoring the soldiers that have passed away some were as young as in their teens during this country's first wars. We realize that without them protecting our country we would not have the freedoms we have now so it is a day of remembrance and honor.

Yes Memorial Day is more signifucant when we know people who have passed. I too think of all the young lives taken way too early. These young military never had a chance to live full lives and fulfill childhood dreams and it is so sad. God Bless them all and all their families who are grieving for them today and every day.

So sorry linda it has to be hard on a day especially like today. It does bring up many memories of the soldiers who have lost their lives as well as are still out in the war.
I hope it is a filled happy day of remembrance as he would want it to be.
