If your home is old and in need of a new A/C and Heater, Would you spend average $8,500 to $12,000+ for a new set?? Our house is old, so the A/C and Heater is broken.. however the cost of an A/C and Heater is so expensive. I don't think we need it.. you can always buy a fan or portable A/C to put in your window when it's hot and when it's cold, a portable heater. It's not like every month you need to turn it out so probably 1 month of the year you'll use A/C and 1 month of the year you'll use a heater.. it'd obviously cost more for that month but a new system would sit and do nothing?? What do you think? I told my parents its not quite necessary since we live in California and the weather isn't even bad at all. Have you ever got a new a/c or heater?

That certainly sounds like California pricing. Like you said for your area if it's only intolerable hot a month out of the year you are better off with a window a/c unit. And for the "cold" just a small ceramic heater should do just fine.

Hi, infatuatedbby. I can understand your family upgrading their home and paying this much for their air/heat unit. But, to just buy an air conditioner and a portable heater is just too much! If you feel that you may use these items not as much, then I can understand why spending more for these items, is just a waste of money.

"I told my parents its not quite necessary since we live in California and the weather isn't even bad at all." It's not? Maybe it's not where you're at, but here in the Northern part it can get pretty bad! LOL By the way, I've gotten both. However, they were the portable type. Although I do have central heat and air my husband and I don't use it. It'd cost too much to run. Instead we use portable heaters during the winter and air conditions in the summer in a couple of areas in the house, that way it doesn't cost as much. Happy mylotting!

hi, we all know that having this kind of appliances inside of our house can make our electric bill high, but here in my country,i would rather choose to have an air-conditioned because my country is one of the most hot weather country.
