A journey back to The Rock...

Before Brad Pitt, there was Ed Harris. And before any aspiring espionage character, there was Sean Connery. And Nicholas Cage was probably the Birdy who got lucky to rise amongst the ranks of such great actors as mentioned here.
I literally coerced my daughters to watch The Rock, short of saying the movie was prototype for every exciting high action movie there is today. And as if hypnotized by some spell, my daughters laid mum on the bed for the entire movie that showcased an action packed film depicting the plight of soldiers and the ills of government...
The Rock was the perfect plot for me. And Jerry Bruckheimer was the wisest producer. Not only was I awed by the story that tackled human frailty and injustice but I was ushered to a combat world where dignity, respect, command, patriotism, fire power prevailed.
The Rock. This is a movie about how one decorated and honored man in uniform tried to tell that his men had been left out and unaccounted...and no one listened. He had to do what he had to do...and still failed. View it!

I've heard of the movie but I honestly haven't seen it yet. But the cast is seemingly a powerful one. I hope I could get to see the movie. I'm quite a fan of war movies especially those that are heart stopping and totally touching movies of soldiers in battle grounds. Nicholas Cage is one hell of an actor and I'm a big fan.

Oh I see. Since you highly recommended it, 'll be looking for a copy so I can watch it this weekend. Thanks! I'm quite a movie buff but I guess when the movie was shown in theaters, I was still a kid. Thank you again Ms. eileenleyva. I'll definitely watch it and let you know what I think about it.

I loved this movie not only because of the daughter of Sean Connery in the film, I forget her name... the one from Meet Joe Black (with Brad Pitt
), but it had a great story as you said.
almost non-stop action, and the when it slows down a bit, you don't get frustrated because it slows down too much. The acing in the slow scenes are just right. Not too many lag times, if at all.
I also loved the interaction between Connery and Nicholas Cage. One of the few Nicholas Cage movies I like!
But the plot is brilliant and the actors were perfect for their roles.
Good film!

Script and direction sterling. Language, well-written. Special effects and sound track, exciting. Moral of the story, permeating. Acting, superb.
The Rock is one totally relevant movie. I do hope people understand the message that had been well sent.

I remember the name of the girl now, its Claire Forlani!
It was a really good movie, I enjoyed it a lot.
The moral of the story remains relevant even today, or should I say moreso today when politicians and leaders are no longer concerned with what is right and are just concerned about enriching themselves and keep their popularity.
It is sad, but its reality.

Hello Eileen,
This movie was somehow imitated by our very own Antonion Trillanes since He and his fellow soldiers also experience the same neglect that they have experience against their generals
. but the difference is that in the end, the senator has made his own point, specially now that the generals are expose.
as for the ROCK, it's really cool that the general himself had a conscience in the end and nicolas cage was able to get out of there as the bomb strikes

That is why although I was angry and disgusted by the Oakwood Mutiny, I was forgiving towards Trillanes and company. I knew that their sentiments were very real. I am not as forgiving when it comes to Honasan et al. Theirs was lunacy.

I don't think I have seen it. I am not a big fan of movies based on wars. This one sounds like it has more of a story though. If I get the chance, I will watch it.
