500 to 700 dollar a kilogram potato

I think we had discussed so many who were expensive food in many discussions here in Mylot so I wanted to have a new one in the lists. In France there is a kind of the state of known as La Bonnotte from what I heard I have these potatoes are expensive because the books seaweeds on the soil where they cultivate these potatoes. It's not expensive because it has gold or something but it's expensive because it's hard process of cultivation and breeding.I think rather than buying one, I just want to learn the cross is of how to make the potatoes that way, who knows maybe I can imitate and produce such potatoes on my back yard.

The "bonnotte" is an early variety of potato which grows only on the Island of Noirmoutier in Brittany. The first crop, in the beginning of April, is generally sold in an auction sale, and it is true that they can reach $700. However, only the first are sold this price, and you can buy them in May for $7 or $8 a kg. It is not cheap, because they have to be hand collected and handled with care, but anybody can taste this potato : they are not truffles. You will find such prices for the first price of other vegetables : in December 2008 the first shoots of hops -- appreciated as a delicacy in Belgium and France -- have been sold 1000 Euros per kg -- $1459 today --, and you can gather them for free on river banks in May and June : it is the rarity of a product that makes its price.

I looked in my supermarket a hour ago, and they are not more sold : two weeks ago I should have sent you some by airplane to try. Their only interest is to be a very early variety. They are very small and tender, and you cannot keep them more than a week after the crop. I don't think you can cultivate them anywhere : they are cultivated in sand in this island, cannot be collected with an engine, and are probably too fragile for a normal soil. I have eaten some a few times -- they are not really expensive if you buy only 3 or 400 g for a dish --, and their taste is the same than potatoes cultivated in another island, Batz, growing also in the sand : it is not too late for the potatoes from Batz, if you want some.

Does its taste really justified the price? The way you describe it, these potatoes will melt in the fridge. I was amazed that it grows in the sand. It seemed like it's hard to raise than saffron. So they taste very similar to regular potatoes? Now I felt like I'm not going to buy them because their cost can put holes in wallets i and pockets.

Do you think this potato is so exclusive to France that I want be able to cultivate and create a similar tasting potatoes in my backyard. Have you tried eating them before? What makes them different from regular potatoes?

look like gold. Fine. Please grow and if u succeed tell mylottians so that many others can grow. I am not having backyard so no problem. It is always the case the more luggage u have the more problem u have. ok have a very good day.

i hears seeweeds and lemon is used aa fertilizers, maybe its doable if you live close to the ocean
