use a high quality recording microphone with a spit guard to reduce sound blasting of the ps, fs, bs and s.
for simple recording use Audacity which can be downloaded as free software and Cakewalk if you really want to go into recording. If you have a Mac, Garage Band will do.
Before the actual recording, find the correct distance where you are comfortable with your mic.
There are so many techniques that can not be listed down in one seating.
I suggest you study.

Great suggestions, thanks! Is the spit guard the same thing as a pop filter? Also, do you have any recommendations as to where I can get a good microphone? Thanks again!

First, you need to have a good space that is more likely desired for sound proofing. Also consider a space that has less noise, so that once you go over to the recording process, there will be no unwanted sound over your recorded music.
After deciding your space/room for recording, you need to make it sound-proof. Some DIY sound proofing material is egg-cartons or cork-foam. It’s not that costly and fairly cheap.
Second, buy a reliable microphone, an acoustic microphone or lapel mic would do. But if you have more budgets on your recording, you can buy a condenser microphone which is really intended for sound recording. Other accessories such as mic-stand, and high-def. speakers are just optional but if you have more budget you can buy such accessories.
Lastly, decide for good recording software that you can easily manipulate and that is compatible for your computer and computer’s preference. You can download and install a free open source recording software called audacity, or better buy a recording software called adobe audition.
