Everyone knows what alcohol does to one's moods. But did you know that foods also alter one's moods? Have you had any noticeable experience when consuming any specific foods that might have put you on a high, or depressed you. Let's discuss.

Hello there! Generally talking, eating something sweet makes me feel happier, even though I do not necessarily like sweets much. Drinking my coffee also helps, because I am not the kind of person who has 5 per day or more. Only one, and I keep it for hours. About foods now, I must admit some national delicacies, for example souvlaki, can always bring me to better mood. You didn't say what you think on it...have you noticed any difference with specific foods?

Indeed I must also try to think of a food that seems to depress me. Only I can think of at the moment is fish, but it could be it makes me sadder because I do not like eating fish. If it's this way then the purpose of the "test" would change... we aren't noting which foods we like and which we don't, but which seem to have effect on our mood. So far chocolate seems to be indeed a booster of mood, I have read before researches on such. Souvlaki is probably the most known delicacy in Greece, a pita-kind dough which got inside pork (either as gyros or as skewered pork pieces), french fries, tomato and onions, and if you want a white sauce called tzatziki. If you are interested on it, this is the wiki of Gyros, which also got information on souvlaki sandwhich: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gyros I like souvlaki so much!

I am seriously thinking of making a note of what triggers my moods and that food plays a role is indeed doubtless. I get the feeling chocolates do pep me up but I should keep a watch to see what depresses me. I also get the feeling that sometimes it is not food per se that peps us up but the thought of eating our favourite food could do that as in your case the souvlaki and what is souvlaki?

It is True, especially if you already suffer from some types of Food allergies, or other Medical problems where you are taking certain meds for. Some will even hinder the effects, but they can also end up creating horrible Mood swings for a person as well. Most people never think about Foods being mind altering unless somehow they are made aware of it. I am sure there are some that effect me Badly, but Chocolate is one that usually helps lift my Spirits up more for sure.

Chocolate always makes me feel better when I am down or tired...lol...I don't eat a lot of it, but that is really the only food that I have ate to give me the kind of reactions you are talking about. I have heard that strawberries wake you up and make you feel more refreshed. I have also heard that Turkey actually does have something in it that makes you sleepy. I always thought I just eat to much at Thanksgiving though

I don't want to border on the physical aspects of food but just how one feels eating it. Chocolates do elevate one and I too have noticed it.

Yes, I do know that. I usually include in my talks th value of eating the right choice of foods in terms of behavioral modification. Meat eaters tend to get angry easily when provoked. Vegetarians are usually easy to deal with and are happy and fun loving person. The food we eat changes moods because it affects our physical well-being. It has direct influence on our body compositions, particularly its effects on our blood. A thick blood usually leads to irritable feelings, etc. I do agree with you when you say that foods also alter one's mood. Have a nice day.

I think there is meaning in what you say. On keen observation one does see the effect foods have on moods.

i love green vegetables like asparagus, they always give me a smile on my face. not sure if that is because i love it so much or because of any special powers! green tea is a great pick me up and bananas......i love bananas! a glass of champagne with any of the above would send me to feel good heaven!

Asparagus and a smile I can vouch never goes together but it will, if there is a glass of champagne around! I have heard of green tea and bananas being health boosters but are you sure they affect one's moods too? Get back to me and tell me more about it. I am interested as I would want to give it to someone I know who would rather prefer champagne!
