I heard it in a news there were more flooding in the Southern part of the Philippines. The cause is overgrowth of water hyacinth along a river bank in one of the major rivers,Rio Grande de Mindanao. It was followed by another news that water hyacinth is actually a source of livelihood in the Northern part of Philippines.Water hyacinth is made into expensive handicrafts like bags and baskets and exported to Japan and European countries which helps families in Luzon gain sustainable income with it.Why should not the same concept be applied in Mindanao solving flooding in the area and at the same time providing sustainable income to the impoverished Philippine region? The government can just educate the people on how to utilize that water hyacinths. What do you think?

This is some interesting facts, and I can see why you would not wonder why they are not using it there in the Phillipines the way that other countries do. All I can say is just imagining the Colors and such, these must be beautiful. We here in the US though are the same way, willing to help out other countries quicker than we help ourselves. Makes you wonder.
