Who is ‘Maharaja’?

Maharaja means king of kings. My Guruji says, ‘just as the king controls and rules over his subjects in various ways, similarly, advanced devotees maintain control and rule over their senses and can thus also be addressed as Maharaja or king.’ This is why sannyasis are sometimes addressed as Maharaja and also why disciples sometimes address their spiritual master as Guru Maharaja. Here a ‘brahmana’ is also respectfully addressed as Pandita Maharaja. So it is very clear that the Maharaja title is not the exclusive property of sannyasis. It can also be applied to kings, gurus, and brahmanas. It applies to anyone who is either a monarch or who has complete control over his senses. [b]Please respond and share your views. Dear Professor Each religion does have their beliefs in their king. I am Catholic and do believe in Jesus Christ. I do not impose my beliefs upon anyone. I am simply respectful and enjoy to be reciprocated as well. I wish and pray for world peace and love amongst all mankind at all times. You have a very lucky day ahead also.
