I Need Advice About The Wii Fit

Well, I finally did it, I purchased a Wii. They were so cheap at the video game store that I knew it was one of those now or never moments in my life. My boyfriend has an Xbox 360 but he doesn't have the Kinect. Partly because he has no room and partly because it wouldn't get much use and neither he or his son have any athletic inclination at all. I used to be in the Air Force so all these years of gaining weight and being too poor to go to the gym and not near enough to a track and all the regular excuses have made me so depressed and when I look in the mirror I don't like what I see. I can't even excuse myself so how bad it has gotten. I can't even say 'look at all that my body can do at this weight.' Because quite frankly I'm lucky if I make it up a flight up stairs. So, I bought the Wii. And the Zumba game. I've played it a little, but it is kind of advanced for me and I figured I should start out with the Wii Fit first to build up to it. I read in a magazine that the Wii Fit balance board doubles as a scale and this is where my main confusion comes in. You see my living room is carpeted and all my life I've been told never to use a scale on carpet because it will mess up the readings (add pounds) is it the same with the balance board for this game? Are there some things to keep in mind if this is the case? I was going to get this at the video store but it is 100 dollars and I spent less than that on the Wii! So, I'm thinking about getting it through Amazon for much less. I've never had any problems with Amazon so I hope they don't start with this! Lol

Well I would think of it this way. If you use the scale on the carpet then every time you weight yourself the pounds you lose will be accurate because it weighted you the same. So just go by pounds lost. Secondly I love wii fit and I play daily. I am not as fortunate as you I actually paid the 100 dollars and then the 50 for rumba as well. Rumba may seem hard but man do you sweat. And sweat is good! When I play zumba I go to the section where they teach me the dance then if I stil do not get it I just dance to the rythme and I will still be burning calories as long as I do not stop. After doing this half way through the route my muscles I never use...u know the stomach ones were aching so I know I m use them! I hope this information has helped you and if you have any more questions feel free to ask

Oh THANK YOU! I didn't think of it that way. I'm really excited about getting this Wii Fit Plus in the Mail, though I'm ticked off to have just discovered today that a new Wii is on it's way out. I guess I'm good though, I bought the Wii for the exercise programs. Though, I did get Super Mario Brothers for it too. Lol. I really cannot dance in the first place which is part of the reason I bought Zumba... I was hoping it could force me to learn to dance. But, I also have an MTV Yoga DVD coming in on backup, because I KNOW I can do that one. Here is to hoping I can get my military body back!

You do not need to know how tondance to shake your hips and trust me I just mainly do that. I love my fit. If you need an exercise partner let me know when you get yours in and we can do some challenges!

You can do challenges over the internet with it? That would be cool!

My dear dismalgrin, I am not an expert in this area that you are explaining. I only hope someone out there comes into the house to give you a helping hand. However, have a nice day.

Thank you Naija! My boyfriend just told me he knew someone that did it. So, I'm going to give it a try. Worse case scenario I just won't be able to use the scale option on it and I'll still be able to use the fitness stuff.

I weigh myself on a carpet, and the Wii Fit weighs me in at half a stone lighter than any other scale. You will still be able to track whether you're losing weight, though, whether it is heavier or lighter than your actual weight or not. I love my Wii Fit, as it means that you do not have to leave the house in order to lose weight, which is good if you're a little embarrassed about running in the streets, or if you cannot afford a membership at the gym which most people actually can't. I managed to lose 30lbs just by using my Wii Fit, and now I will go out jogging because I am no longer embarrassed about my size at all.

I am not embarrassed about running in the streets. I live in a bad neighborhood so it is not safe to be running around here. I could go to the park to run, but it is kind of far away so it is just easier to work out at home for me.
