Since this is July, I was reading on various Civil War artifacts and found this piece of true trivia and thought others interested in History might like to know this too.
On July 25,1866 Ulysses S. Grant was named General of the Army of the United States, the first Officer to hold this rank.
I found that amazing as I served in the Army.
Anyone else have a bit of Civil War trivia that is not usually known to most people?

I have been watching a series on PBS entitled "Abraham and Mary" It is all about the Lincoln's and of course the civil war. I don't really remember anything new, but I know Lincoln tried a lot of men to lead the Union army before he settled on Grant. It is really interesting, at least to me.

Yes it is amazing how some of our officers even to today call back on the manuevers of the Civil War.
I still find it very fascinating. I would have been one of the girls in the tunnels aiding the blacks to freedom.
I have a very strong spirit to freedom and I stay true to the military.
My husband served 23 1/2 years in the military and never saw a battle field, I on the other hand was a medic and fought every day to save a man's life.
I told my husband recently that I am very proud to have served when I did. I told him I could not serve under this Prez as our commander in chief.
I just have no respect for him so afraid I would have to gone AWOL.
There has to be a serious pride to serve as a woman in the Military.
And as well for the men that serve.
But when the officers do not believe in their platoon, company or whatever you want to call it,the pride breaks.
When I served ARTEP, I stood up against a Lt.Colonel.
I managed to assist our Emergency Platoon in winning the War Games.
I actually won an award for rallying us around.
I keep telling my husband if a war or anything breaks out around where we lived, I will be the little old lady going around and doing triage on the wounded people around me til more help can get there.
My husband shakes his head and tells me I am fiesty.
LOL
I always was because I should not have been allowed in the Army.
I had to fight hard to get in.
Thats another story...LOL

I always wondered what the military would do if they didn't like the President. It would be hard to put your life on the line for someone you didn't respect. Who was president when you served? Where there a lot of women in the military? A woman I know served in the Marines and she said it was nothing like in the movies. They trained seperate from the men and everything. Did you have that experience? Why did you have trouble getting in?
