I don't know how many people know of this plantation except that I am sure the state of Tennessee does as this plantation is in Franklin, Tennessee. This plantation was right in the middle of one of the deadliest battles during the Civil War. The plantation was turned into a medical hospital. Over 1500 soldiers were buried in a field. When Carrie McGavock learned that the field these soldiers were buried at was going to be plowed, she had every one of the soldiers moved to the private Carnton cemetery. This woman was a very strong willed and determined lady and she spent many hours each day amongst the graves of these soldiers until she passed on. I am hoping to be able to visit this plantation next spring. There is a book available that will tell you true facts while yet being read as a novel its named Widow of The South by Robert Hicks. I am proud to own this wonderful historical book to my book collection.

The only plantation I have ever visited was the one they used in "Gone With The Wind", Tara. I am not sure if that was just the name in the movie or the plantations real name. I would love to read this book and will have to keep the title in mind.

YOu are very welcome! when I am finished reading it, I will send you an email. Right now I am reading a book on 1937 on how Chinese were treated when they came from their country to the US. I am just about done with it. See I have these problems, whether to cross stitch or read. I love both so I have to argue with myself all the time on what to do! When I first found this book it was over 25.00 and I could not afford it. I always said if it ever went on sale I would get it. I went to Booksamillion one day and found it for only 7.99 so naturally I had to snap it up!
