Don't know what to do with this situation.

I looked into the tank where the second litter of gerbils is and found one of the gray ones wandering around. I took a closer look at her(I think she's female) and discovered that she has a deformity of her front left leg. It's bent out at an awkward angle. Now I'm really worried about this, I don't know if she'll survive due to this, I don't know if she'll be able to eat on her own when she's weaning. Even if she does survive, I certainly can't rehome her, it wouldn't be fair to someone else to have a deformed gerbil. I have no idea if she's suffering or not, and don't know if we should allow her to live or not. There's too much going on around here for me to think straight, I just don't know what to do.

Awwh the deformity sound sad and hope the gerbil is not suffering due to it. I know you are quite busy and it must be hard on what to think and or do as far what to do. I hope the little guy makes it.

Wow. How is little gray doing now? Is the leg doing any better? Does she seem to be in any pain? I would be interested in finding out more about this. I hope things are going well.

I had gerbils when I was a teenager and again in my twenties. I love gerbils and think they look adorable. I am sorry to hear one of your gerbils has a deformed leg. I would advise to let her live and keep a close eye on her. She has three other legs to use and if you get very worried speak to a vet. I wouldn't suggest rehoming her. My disabled son has weak legs and can't walk due to his spina bifida. He is very gifted with his hands due to his legs being so poor. One of my friends got polio when he was 3 years old. He walks with a limp and is doing well. Another one of my friends has a disabled son and he had one and a half legs at birth. When a person or animal is deformed they can manage with some effort. Good luck.
