The chimney is leaking, but I know what the problem is.

Thankfully, I know what the problem is and how to fix it. A couple of weeks ago I noticed water coming into the fire place when we had a heavy rain storm. This morning when it poured again(another topic), the rain started coming in again. I sent a message to my landlord telling him we had a problem. When he sent a message back to me, he asked how I knew it was a problem with the trees. I originally thought the trees were the problem, otherwise it was a structural issue. I went outside to look at the chimney and saw the mortar on the wall. It was crumbling and falling out of the wall. It wasn't the trees at all. So, as I took the crumbling mortar out of the wall, I figured out how deep the mortar had gone in and realized that it was something we could handle on our own. Only have to put more mortar into the hole in the wall and patch it all up. But I have to wait until it's dry and I have time to do it. This shouldn't take more than a couple of hours to get this job done.
