Make Eye Contact

Just today I went out early to take a walk. I was enjoying the cool breeze of an early autumn in my place. While glancing from side to side, I saw an old woman begging. She didn't come up to me but I was shy to look at her. I bowed my head and slowly passed by. I felt so shy. I didn't look at her. As far as I can remember I came up to them if I have a coin to give, but I have never made an eye contact. I was wondering why. Have you ever seen beggars on the street? Have you ever given any help to these people? How do you feel whe you some? Have you ever made eye contact with these people who ask for help? Why did I feel shy? Have a great day and thanks in advance!

I used to help beggars but I don“t anymore as I have learned more about them. I prefer to give more to institutions who will give out food or shelter and will not use the money for other purposes. Most of the so called beggars earn more money than hard working people.

I get your point. It is better to give food and things that they need than money. My mom does that especially during Christmases and/or there are calamities that happens to our area. I think there are cases of what you said that beggars earn more than hard working people. Thanks so much for responding. Have a great day!

That is one way to make sure they don't just anyhow do to the food that you have given. That's a very good idea but it will take your time or if they are used to you they will keep coming back to your house. is that good to do?

I do give food when childrn come to my house to beg. But I make them eat it in front of my eyes as I know they are sent to get money for others. I would call THAT eye contact.

i still give help to poor people, to beggars. but most of the time, i resist because i see how some of these beggars do with their money. i look of them first and assess their personality.

You have a good heart. It's quite hard to assess them. Maybe we can just give them food so we are sure we gave the right help.

You may have felt shy because you don't want her to feel like you are staring at her. Usually when we see a homeless person or beggar we can sense their plight and don't want to add to their distress by making them feel worse. Most of the time though I look at them, and try to make sure that my disposition is positive, which can be hard to do, because you don't want to make them feel that you are superior or that your life is so wonderful. I have helped out poor individuals and I feel so much better when I do. I usually give them food or something because with money you don't necessarily know what they will spend it on.

I am glad that from time to time you are able to help them. I can't remember when was the last time I did. I feel so bad. As I was thinking, maybe one reason for not making an eye contact wit them is that I feel shy that I cannot help them at all. I feel bad that I look better or feel better than them. Thanks so much for sharing your opinion. Have a great day!
