I always wonder why a computer speed up when i de fragment hard disk. Can any one tell me how it works. It is really a good option and easy to use, but having knowledge about that thing could be more useful.

I don't have a formal computer education but i know somethings about them. I try to explain it by using an analogy. let's say that computer bits(0 and 1) is a person, a block of data is a house, and a file is a family. Howmany person can a house can contain is depend on what partition you choose. Let's say that one house can contain 32 person. That's mean that if a family have more than 32 family member they had to have more than one house.
everytime you edit a file, the number of family member is either increasing or decreasing, and each time you install a software, there's a whole bunch of new family requiring a house. After a while you use your computer each of the family member is spread around the disk, which make them longer if you call all the family member.
Defrag is responsible to rearrange those family so that family member keep close one to another that make them easier and faster everytime you call them.
i hope this analogy can help you and if other readers who have a better understanding think that my analogy isn't quite right please correct me so i can understand better... thx

That is actually a really good analogy usage there. Good job

Defragmentation is a process that gathers portions of files together instead of spread out throughout your system. Most of the time when you open a file or photo or anything, it opens in multiple areas in your system thus fragmenting it and spreading it out over your whole drive. When you defragment it brings these portions back together and it allows space to be freed up on your harddrive.

Is it really it was? I was assuming it is some how related to file we delete and space left with that.

When you are storing files in you hard disk, the files or data are stored in different places all over you hard disk, wherever there is available space. Now, think of yourself inside your house with everything scattered and you are trying to find something you want to use. You might perhaps be able to find it but not after spending so much time looking here and there considering the mess.
Defragmenting your computer will organize the files or data in one place so when you need that particular info, the computer will not look into other places in your hard disk. Data retrieval would then take a much shorter time considering that everything is organized.
