Hello Lotters,
My opinion is that this is a bit late, but I guess this is better than none. because if the Arroyo wasn't that corrupt, her so called Strong Republic Crap would have proof if she could have bought those kinds of navy ships hersself during her term for at least four hundred fifty million Pesos!!
If Aquino can bargain it for
450m worth of big ship then the past administration could have done better. oh, well enough with the rant. a lot of people think the Gregorio Del Pilar Ship can be use to patrol the western Philippine sea. but with regards to disputes with China, peace negotiation process should be priority one.
As for a Submarine? I think we should have had it along time ago, it's not about practicality but we need increase more security in the Seas.
Have a nice day

hello. being a businessman, I think to bargain or huggle should be SOP in any undertaking especially when buying something worth millions of pesos.
I think Pnoy will be able to buy more modern equipment (arms) to our country than the past administration simply because he does not have a hungry ( hungry for money)family to feed

, yes the sisters look very decent, even Miss Krissy does not need money anymore because she has lots of it already, what she needs is somebody who would love her for life

i could not imagine how we bought a ship like that.
it's somewhat too old and it's too expensive, i guess.
if only the people government is not corrupt, maybe we could have a better one.
do we really need such a battle ship?

Don't raise you hopes too high just yet LK. The newly bought navy ship is not brand new and in fact it's about 46 years old and about to be or had been decommissioned by the US. Meaning it has served its purpose and it's just worthy for the museums. In simple words, we bought junk. But then again, it's way better than our current line up of navy ships. Besides, Filipinos are ingenious, if we are able to make a jeepney out of willys jeep, then it's just a matter of time before someone transforms that battle ship into an aircraft carrier, who knows?
. Kodus to Pnoy for doing something that the previous administration failed. I think they're planning on getting more so that means there are more to come which is great. But lets face the reality that when we buy second hand, it is to be expected that maintenance cost is high so that means additional burden to tax payer.

Hello
Ybong, Indeed this is really something refurbished after 46 years of use. I wish we can use our ingenuity to convert old ships into a destroyer. we can't have aircraft carrier right now if it's impractical and takes huge amount of money for maintenance. maybe they should make more patrol boats to support that ship instead because it has a very small turret

@ybong007,
you are absolutely correct....
even those passengers ships here in the Philippines, all of it are all rejected in Japan but re-painted and repaired here in our Country, then it looks new to the eye of the public....
the reason why most passenger ships here in our country are sunken down when bad weather comes because its all a flat bottom ships and not those of sharp deep rooted bottom ships....
and aside from overloading too.....

@LK, don't worry, Pnoy was quoted saying that he wants everything. So expect a lot more to come. I think the reason why they bought that warship first is for symbolism purposes only. In fact, even Pnoy clearly stated that it's a nice symbol of defense. You can't have a patrol boat as a symbol of defense
. There's only one thing that Pnoy has to be wary of and that is to tint any of those military acquisition with corruption. For now, what he's getting is mostly nods from the public. It means he's on the right tract. Be it junk or brand new doesn't matter as long as it's acquired the right way.

try to look at the forefront of that war ship,
did you find any 3 canons in a single box?
none....
its only a small canon in a small box....
meaning,
Its a Battleship war ship.... NO!!!
Its a Cruiser war ship.... NO!!!
Its an old Destroyer war ship... YES!!!

Hello
Mantis, So I guess it's better off if we have submarines instead because we are protecting water territories, I don't even know why they prefer ships like that unless it's good for rescue cruise that are in trouble over seas. as for Air Power and defense i think we can just buy jets that consumes less fuel but high speed but can also carry enough weapons to defend our cities. Have a nice day

Yes the past administrations failed to give importance in building the AFP. They took for granted that it was not important. The sad thing is that it is NOW biting as we are face in defending our territory with inadequate assets. Imagine if every administration after Marcos gave at least 10% then our AFP would still be one of the best in Asia.
