No meat in space

For sure it's seem to be so far from now, space colonization is one of loss of home the greatest fantasies of the science fiction geeks like already me. NASA already have plans of a human colony of home in earth's Moon or planet Mars would look like. In the plan Martian colony, people to be sent there will have to grow anyway I just found plants inside the colony as food and oxygen source. Anyway I just found out that the only meat source astronauts will have will be canned goods. Once they ran out of canned goods they will be forced to be vegans. They said it's impossible to raise animals for food in a space colony with just few people because they to the will be emotionally attached to the animal because theyvwill spend 2 years with the animal before landing to mars. So vegetables that guy can grow inside a spaceship or a colony will be there only choice. Basically in the first Mars colony their plan is to send only six people. NASA thinks astronauts will fight inside the colony is they will raise an animal for food.

I think it will be freaking cool to be able to travel to other planets and things like that, but I read somewhere else that exposure to radiation for astronauts can lead to cancer and other things. I was going to say load the ship with lots of and lots of can foods but it will be to heavy for lift off. I was going to say get a couple of cows and animals, but there is not enough room. So, if we have the technology to travel to Mars, we should have the technology to make astronauts not to feel hungry or invent some drinks that taste like steak....

I think the most handy as animal to be brought on space will be birds and edible rodents like rabbit. Rabbits will be easy to raise and the grow fast. Home (sorry if you found eating rabbits offensive, I'm part Peruvian and it's part of my culture to eat rabbits and Guinea pigs) In case a poultry birds like chicken or Turkey, I think birds but might be practical, in case they get emotionally attached to the birds, they don't mean to kill them for food but they can keep them for eggs.

I don't know if you are aware of this, most astronauts drinks their bath water and urine. As basically a machine that recycles those liquid in the clear and clean water. This is also a practice and ships. So if you have been on the ship before, what comes out of the Faucet is recycled water. It happens in airplanes too

No need to say sorry, I am not offended. Eggs sounds like a good idea, but I still will go with something to drink, something that ins't going to make me feel hungry for at least 3 weeks.

Hiya Captain As you have not marked this as a fantasy, I have to be a little serious in my response. That does seem quite logical and I hope that the experiment of raising one animal helps them find out what the investments would be for raising an entire herd. So that on the future trips they can try to re-create a forest or a herd kind of thing. Then the issue of fresh non-veg or meat may be resolved... But they can also put up an aquarium (for experimentations) and sea food or at least fish... I am concerned about the 6 people only thing more than anything else... what in case someone falls ill? As only astronauts are planned to sent what about the doctor and medical assistance? Should be given a little more of priority coz 2 years in space will definitely weaken their bones if not anything else.

from what I heard one of them will be a doctor and I guess all of them will be trained for this mission. Basically they will travel for two years before they get there. They will spend another two years for research. if they found building a colony possible, they will stay there for good. That's how things were planned. they already figured out how to be grown vegetables in space. Do you remember the Japanese scientists who is able to convert poop two meat, should she I heard they were considering his technology.

Isn't poop supposed to be toxic? I want to see how is he going to make the poop taste better or turn it into meat.
