Do all blu-ray players have firmware and what if the player is an older model?

I've recently been enjoying some blu ray movies, I'm still a little new to this blu ray thing, anyway here's the thing, I noticed that some blu-ray disk have a note on the back of the casing that says you may need to update your firmware to view this disk, and upon viewing this I thought oh great more annoying hassles to consider with new technology, I also thought..mmmm I wounder if all blu ray devices use firmware so of course I figured I'd ask the good people of mylot. Alright now can any of you answer this one well really it's a two part question? So if all blu rays use firmware what do you do if the player is slightly old just throw it away for new one? gee! I hope not lol that seems like a waste.

most bluray disc comes equiped inside the disc datas 'a firmware auto update.. Once i got a This is It"(michael jackson) bluray disc, after putting in the disc.. on screen it says i need to update my firmware.i was like ..huh??? had me stunned for few minutes..then i just cliked OK..then it updated itself thru the data contained inside the disc itself..so ..solved! some ..doesnt have data to auto update the movie to be use together with ur BD player..so u need to update the firmware inside your BD player..u need to go online (either connect your BD player to a LAN or wifi) or simply visit your bd player brand (say SONY ,SAMSUNG etc) and download the updates using a pendrive/storage device then transfer the updated data back to the bd player..-but usually this step dont really happen ...unless u are using a PLaystation 3 to watch Blurays.. almost 99percent new Bluray movies comes with firmware updater in it.. what brand and model of BD player ur using??
