I turned on laptop yesterday to view a youtube video and there was no sound. worried, I went onto another site that has no sound. I plugged in my headphones. The sound worked through the headphones. Later on, I turned it on and The sound was back on through the speakers. But later on, it didn't work, still working through headphones. I did drop this the other day. I thought that might be the why the cause. Does anyone know why sometimes the laptop speakers work and sometimes they don't?

You can turn the speakers on and off with a couple of key strokes which vary from make to make. I expect you already know this though.
More likely a loose connection caused by the drop.

Going out on a limb here and becoming your call center girl. You have made a correct diagnosis on this I think. The fact that you have sound on the headphones and not the speaker could mean yes, you have a connection problem. One thing that can cause a problem too is the little jack where the headphones plug in. I would keep working on this a little more before drawing the conclusion that something is wrong physically inside your laptop.
I would say when the sound does not work again to have your headphones ready again and do nothing but plug them in. If they work immediately but your laptop speakers do not come back even after unplugging and plugging in a few times you have confirmed you have a loose wire inside or, try not to think about this too much because it will keep you awake at night, the circuit board is damaged from being dropped.
hope this has helped a little.
thank you for calling, is there anything else I can help you with today?
:-)
