The tallest building in the Philippines is about 50 feet tall but we never had any building taller than that. We actually Good engineers and architects in our country so It really makes me wonder why we dont have sky scrapers with hundreds of floors, I just talk to someone who is an architect and I finally found out the reason. Our government dont approve permits to over the top collosal towers because our country is earthquake prone. Many ambitious projects had been proposed to be built in our country before but they were not approved because of the risk and dangers.
So it makes me wonder why Pagcor tower is approved to built in our country despite of the dangers.Pagcor Tower is approved to be built in an artificial Island in Manila Bay.
Many ambitious projects were declined by our government before,Now they will build a an observation tower in the middle of the ocean. How safe is this tower?

hello capt,
And how about the super MEGA MALL OF ASIA...it is built in a reclamation area.
I never allow my kids to wander in that place and always tell them how dangerous that place..

hi guys, I was also thinking that, not just earthquake but what about a tsunami? There are times they go together like what happened in Japan

Whenever I'min Moa, I always felt vibrations on the floor that gives me an uneasy feeling, At least its only 2 stories, one extra story, that mall will wobble.

Indeed SM MOA place is once a part of a manila bay and at any time it might deteriorate and eroded since it was built on a continental slope.

In an earthquake prone area tall buildings necessary for observation like purposes can be build, provided all precautions from basement to the top are taken. Is 50 feet a dangerous height for a building?

I guess we should be contented with 30 to 50 floor buildings, Its better be safe than sorry, archipelagos not meant for ginormous collosus.

i have not much idea on such, specifically on buildings, etc. i think though that since Philippines is an island, a group of islands actually.. tall buildings could pose a big risk, actually. we are surrounded by seas and well.. of course that meant that some soil or grounds are not that "safe" to have such tall buildings erected. :D hehe

Indeed we are not a single solid large Island China,so I believe the land cannot wont be strong enough to handle framework of a very tall building. and to think of it we are so surrounded by ocean. I dont know why now the government is confident to build a 100 story casino in the middleof the ocean now.,

hello captain albert
Nyahahahaha
(what?) a tower in the middle of an island? it would have been logical if it's a military post that has a huge tower in it, but padcor? It's frustrating really, the government is really corrupt to the core that they don't allow huge towers with out even locating the best place for it. Not to mention architectural design in the past was not followed and that's why now we are not entirely progressing . Which cause our people to leave the country.

not just an Island, an artificial Island, An artificial Island can support houses but a tall building beyond zephyr sounds like a disaster during earthquakes and even storms. our country isnot meant for 100 floor sky scrapers, this is dangerous, why did this project gets approved.

Besides being in an earthquake prone zone, I heard once that we do not have fire fighting equipment that is capable of fighting fires in very tall buildings, I think the best we have are in Makati city but even then, their ladders can only reach a few stories, wonder what will happen if one of those skyscrapers catch fire? They would just leave it to self extinguish itself? We do not have fire fighting aircraft that can drop chemicals, we use to rely a lot on the Americans when the U.S. bases were here

That's what I agree with louie, we are also deteriorating when it comes government services. fire trucks doesn't even have enough supplies for their water. not only that they lack equipment and nice place to stay...i watch a documentary once that even their place can easily be caught on fire. you really gotta hate corruption on this one

for sure towers like the Petronas tower being built in our country would have make us proud but all that dangers from earth quake to fire makes it risky. I think even Japan didnt attempt tohave a gargantuar sky scraper,

Indeed because our country is a part of pacifics ring of fire so we are much prone to earthquakes and tsunamis, so our buildings are built on a safe level besides we don't need skyscrapers like twin towers of America.

Would have been great if we can have buildings that can compete with the one in Dubai but its better be safe than sorry, But now for some unknown reason the government approved Pagcor tower, a 100 floor building to be built in the ocean.... disaster in the making,
