Cranberries suck this year

At least at all the local picking spots. We pick them every year, and usually get a few bagfuls (large freezer bags) and last year we had 4-5 bags in our freezer. We use them in everything, lol. Even pies. But Hubby was out scouting different spots by lakes and roadsides and can only find small patches here and there. He says we might be lucky if we get even 1 freezerbag full. Ah well, perhaps it'll be just for the holiday sauce for Thanksgiving and Christmas for this year. Kinda disappointed, since we forage for food as part of our groceries.

I always have to buy mine, and I am glad I still have a couple of bags left from last year. I will buy them any time I catch them on sale. I hear there may be a pumpkin shortage as well. That will be rough. Hope you find some.

Yes, there is a pumpkin shortage here in Nova Scotia, it was in the newspaper. We don't normally consume them but my husband's mother does, she makes pies and preserves out of them.

I make pumpkin bread and cookies and things like that as well as pies. I also make homemade pet food and put pumpkin or butternut squash in the pet food as it is a great source of fiber and vitamin A.

Hmm...I might consider purchasing a small pumpkin this year, it just came to my mind that I can make pumpkin muffins...I seen the recipe somewhere before. That's good that you're making your own pet food. I'm not sure if animals are made to eat that yucky-smelling brown stuff they sell in the stores anyway :-p

I wonder with the crazy unseasonable weather all over the world if it affected the growth of the Cranberries. It has been usually way too hot in some countries, while way too cold in others. So maybe this is the reason that you could not pick the large amounts you usually do. At any rate sounds like you will get a couple of good sauces this upcoming holiday.

We've been having such unusual weather here in North America this past year, it's really weird! That must've caused the cranberries to not grow so good this year.
