Assuming that you are in danger of having an internet addiction like games and you are a member of a poor family who can only pay for the basic needs, what will you do to prevent self from using the internet? Do you trust that it will work? Have you tried to lessen your internet usage? How many days were you able to survive without internet access?

Are ya old enough to get a job and pay for the internet yourself? That would work. If not, the basic needs should come first. I would box up and pack away the computer. You'll get over it in due time. There's always the 'library' if ya should need a 'fix'...lol....I'm fine here. I can go without. My PC isn't on, 24/7.

Gossip huh?....lol....Wrong! I blast my stereo and look for something to do. There's always something, that ya put off from doing. I'm sure there's heaps ya can be doing, if the damn PC wasn't jumping out in front of ya? Am I right?...lol

Maybe you can put the computer at the living room so everyone in the family can keep an eye on what you do and how you use the computer generally. being addicted to games is a big problem because of the time wasted and it turns your real life into a problem because the real life needs you to take care of other things. Yesterday , I played some hours an internet game , instead of studing. I decided to study later but then problems started to come up. I had to help my sister and I told her I don't want to help her because I have to study... Now , we barely talk and I accuse her of being dependant of my help (and that's the main idea of being family , we suppose to help each other :( ). The thing is , games can distruct your desire to the real life , the real people you have to take care of... My main idea is : you have to find what the game gives you , the basic need it fulfils at your soul and if you find what you need , you can see your life gives you that need also. There are many things the real life can add to you like the game. You have to find it with yourself. I'm having that battle everyday , some times I lose.

Yep, that's true. What is supposed to be a time for leisure is sometimes abruptly turned into working time. Its not right to suffer for things we are not concerned but the situation gets to the point we have to. Here, patience must prevail and help the person in need of our help and to get away with internet addiction I believe the same is true. Thanks for responding and take care.

Hey there! in regards to your concern or question of internet addiction like games and pointless stuff sometimes, all i can say is know how to balance your time on internet. You only use internet for useful purposes and not always playing games or youtubing when you are forgetting important stuff. Tips I would use: 1.) Know your internet habits, monitor usage of internet and behavior. 2.) Probably set a certain hour or time on what you do on the internet. If you are doing important things that involve internet do those rather than play games and fool around the net. Like how long do you want to spend time on each site or each program? 3.) I think there are some freeware programs that set limits (online timer) for facebook or social networking sites. 4.) If you are playing games, spend at least 1 hour on it and be finished. If you can try at least 30 minute playing internet games, fine. Another thing is your life doesn't involve the internet. Do something else other than sit the whole day doing internet. It can work if you know how to have self control. I've tried to lesson internet usage. Other wise the only way to use internet is go do internet at library. They do have a timer on how long you can use internet there. Depends what library you go to. As for me, well I do enjoy the internet alot. Since i can balance my life doing things, then i can survive somewhat without internet at home. At some point, I was able to survive a week or 2 without internet due to it not working or due to an outage from ISP.

I like tip # 4 but # 2 need some further effort. It's just easy to put off things. I probably can do # 2 if I practice # 1. If you know how strong your avoiding ability, and its bad, there is the push to do # 2. Very informative... thanks

sure the internet is basic necessity. it's just that there is a remarkable amount of time spent with it when in reality there should be something else that is done that can have as big an advantage that can be got from internet. in short there will always be a balance.
